Jan's Story

Life Still living in (the North Houston area) New Caney, (and loving it!) after 30 years! Hubby and I also have a weekend home on Lake Brownwood, in Central Texas which we visit every chance we have. My husband J.D. (also from Friona - a 1970 graduate) and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary June 2009. We are the proud parents 3 awesome adults (a son and two daughters), a beautiful daughter-in-law, two wonderful sons-in-law, and 8 extremely loved (and, yes, spoiled) grandchildren - the light of our lives! Our oldest grandchild (an inventive young teen boy) was 12 in November 2009. The second (our miss diva) turned 10 in December 2009. Number 3 grandchild (an avid t.v. watching boy) will turn 9 years old in April 2010. Numbers 4 & 5 were born only 13 hours apart but on different days - both boys. Number 4 (curious & very loving) and number 5 (elfishly cute and a permanent smiler) will turn 6 in February 2010. It's almost like having twins with those two being born so close together! Number 6 (little miss diva) shares her birthday with her aunt and will be 3 in April 2010. Number 7 (an always-on-the-move little boy) has about six more months of the terrible twos before turning 3 in June 2010. And number 8 (baby girl with 3 older brothers!) was born in September of 2009. So there you have the quick run-down on our "eight-is-enough" (for these grandparents)grand children. They are each oh so much more complex than the short description I gave for each one. They are all very smart and extremely beautiful little human beings. (I'm not predjuced, my heart has just been hijacked by each one!) J.D. and I find ourselves reliving the days when our children were young by attending the grandchildren's baseball & soccer games, swim meets, dance recitals and other activities. We also buy things we don't...Expand for more
need from school, sports and Girl / Boy Scout fund raisers. J.D. retired in October of this year - 2009 (are we really "that" old?). We are always being asked if we will sell our home in New Caney and move to the much, much smaller lake home, but we have no plans to do that. We prefer to keep the house our children grew up in and remain living within 30 minutes of our daughter's families. We do however plan to spend lots of time at our lake home, and lots of time with our son's family in Arkansas as well! (Always hoping they will get to move back to our area sooner than later!) We are currently doing a self "extreme home make over on the entire main house and have plans to build a large bedroom/bathroom on to the lake house - if we can stay off the road ways. All we've done since retirement is travel! At the time I write this, we are visiting JD's sister Diane, and their mother in Tennessee. (As well as JD's older brother & sister and their many offspring.) Our next big trip in the planning is to get me to a diagnostic clinic or hospital ASAP! My pain management doctor has done all she can for me by now & suggests this next move in seeking more help for my chronic health issues. I welcome news from any and all of my classmates (the class of 1974) as well as any Friona folks - current or ex-residents alike! Please email me with updates on your life since high school! I love hearing from anyone who lived (or lives) in Friona! My email is JandySpencer at aol dot com. (Please put "Friona" in the subject line so I won't delete email from unknown addresses.) I'll check back on this web site, but with my health limitations, that's not very often. You can also find me on facebook - a bit more often (Jan Young Spencer). Until when - stay well, stay happy and Go With God my friends, Jan
