Jane's Story

Life Now Self-employed...AA Degree in Bookkeeping...Four children(and 6 steps)...18 grandchildren (with husband number is 28,...and 9 great grandchildren)...do a lot of backpacking..goal: to do the entire 2700 mile Pacific Crest Trail (a little at a time)I have done 268 miles so far....been down the Grand Canyon twice now...] In 2006 I got stuck in the mountains on a backpacking trip and ended up coming home 4 days late. Search and Rescue were looking for me, the news was in on it, It was a big thing. I walked out and was just fine. Time has passed and I still am recognized where ever I go. It is a little funny! So I have a trail name now "Gone Missing" and I have given up hope of acheiving anonimity ever again. I am now a certified member of the Cambridge Who's Who for "outstanding acheivement" in my business! Who would have thought?! I finished my first marathon in 2007. Wahoo! And I did not do so well, but I learned a lot and I will do it again! Life is about growing and expanding every day! And I did my second marathon this year. Did much better speed wise but injured my foot and was unable to finish. But I made it 18 miles! So here is to next year! I helped a friend this year in her restaurant and learned to waitress, as wll as run a cash register and c/c machine. These are things I never have done before so it is a growth experience. Workplace I had to add the business because it is mine! I started my own business 15+ years ago and enjoy it because basically I can work at my own time and pace. I enjoy helping people and seeing them be happy when they get good news. I am good at what I do and that is enjoyable as well. My heroes are people who overcome age, hadicaps, and other adversities to accomplish what they set their minds to. I have known many such people in my life and will always admire and look up to them. My biggest surprise about the way my life has turned out has been myself. I was the quiet girl in the corner with a book and a very low opinion of myself. Now I am a confident successful person with a strong commitment to myself and others. From my kids I have learned that life is not ever going to be the way you plan. The only thing you can do is the best you know how and give them the basics. Then you have to be willing to let them do what they will with it. Because they are going to anyway. The one person from my past who I'd most...Expand for more
like to see again is Jennifer Holbrook, because she was the one who began the influence on me to move out of my shell.. I always wanted to be a hermit when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a silly idea. As it turns out, they were wrong! lol. I love to backpack. When I can't hike due to weather or time, I read, garden, take pictures, or help hubbie build things. The wildest thig I ever did in high School? I guess skipping two weeks of school just because they said boys who were going hunting with their dads could be excused for up to two weeks. So I wrote a note saying my mom was taking me hunting and hid out in the neighbor's house for two weeks! lol If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have my computer, some coffee, and internet access to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Obsessions? Hiking the entire PCT, the AT, and the CDT..hiking the world...my grandchildren If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my office and add on a second bathroom with handicap capabilities. My dream home would be tent on the trail somewhere. I would love to see Mr Manzo again, so I could show him I am no longer afraid to sing and that I remember all that stuff he taught us. If I won $100 million, I'd give half or more of it to the government for taxes, then spend the rest on my husband, my family and my friends. My current age is 51. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be cool. I was so completely correct. My best friend would tell you I'm nuts, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as completely insane. I share my home with my hubbie, which I find immensely satisfying. My oldest friend is my husband. We met while I was daycaring some of his grandchildren. We clicked because we are the two parts of a whole! I am not sure many people really ever new me well in high school. So probably everything about me would surprise the people at the reunion! My first job was at a dog groomong shop, where I got paid very little to answer phones and bathe dogs. What I remember most about it is the owner's pet obscene phone caller. Way too many childhood memeories. You will have to read the book! lol My beloved husband of 34 years passed away of kidney failure in May of 2013. I am now remarried to a wonderful man who I love very much. the really funny part is my previous husband picked him out before I did!
