Jane's Story
Having graduated from the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula in the Bronx in 1955 and the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary (Park Terrace) in 1959, I started at Marymount College in Tarrytown,NY(Class of '63;graduated 1970). I taught/was a principal from 1963-1978 at Marymount Schools (Bogota,Barcelona,Paris,Rome, California & New York).
Since 1979, I have worked full time as a Realtor, have my own real estate Broker's license and since 1994,I have worked as an Associate Broker with RE/MAX Presidential in Fairfax, VA-a perfect fit-selling and leasing commercial and residential real estate.
Since 1979,I have also been active in the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (11,100+ Realtor members)and was the 2008 NVAR Chairman of the Board, serve(d)on the Arbitration, Building, Nominating(Chair), RPAC Committee,Strategic Committee(Chair) and was Co-Chair the RCA Commercial Forum. I am involved with VAR:RCA Commercial Council,Professional Development AG&BOD and NAR(former Director),am member of the Land Use,Property Rights and Environment Committee&Commercial Council;was Federal Political Coordinator for the 11th Congressional District(Rep. Gerry Connolly). It has been a pleasure to serve in these various capacities, not only based on the real estate market, but also we opened our LEED GOLD certified building in June,2010 (interesting process) and changed to new Sentrilock lockboxes-went very smoothly-and were the first in Virginia to receive our Realtors Commercial Accreditation from NAR.I also went to Lima, Peru in September,2008 to teach a real estate and association management seminar along with our CEO and another BOD member. ing to give practical suggestions to the Superintendent since it is one of the largest and excellent school systems in the nation. Was delighted to be named 2009 NVAR Realtor of the Year and 2009 NVAR Hall of Fame as well as RE/MAX Hall of Fame.
On the light side, Joan and I adopted an abandoned 1-year old white cat (Maeve) and her two kittens-Molly and Pumpkin who were born October 4th and weighed 10 ounces when we got them. They have grown up nicely.
My twin sister, Joan, and I have lived together since I came to Fairfax, Virginia. We shared the resposibility-and joy- of taking care of our mother from 1980 until January 24, 1990, when she died. She had a wonderful temperment.
Since my sister, Alice, and her husband, Joe(a law professor at Fordham(NYC) who will retire at the end of 2012), have a wonderful home on Cape Cod and Joan volunteers to help with the garden every June (someone had to do it). My other sister, Ann, lives in Georgia as does her son,Jim(has three daughters-oldest at Cornell; second in college in Georgia and the last in high school;my niece, Katharine- who has been a Rockette for 16 years- married and has a wonderful two-year old;her twin,Elizabeth, lives in Nevada, was a Rockette also and teaches pilates.
Politically, as you would guess, I am involved as the Mosby Precinct Captain for the Fairfax County Republican Committee and am working hard to get the vote out. I also took part in the NAR Realtor Rally on May 17th, 2012 at the Washington Memorial with 14,000+ other Realtors to promote Home Ownership and Property Rights. The May meetings in DC were more than informative. I will be at the NAR meetings in November in Orlando,Florida.
