A story by Jane D. Shepard. Times were that I wore glasses as thick as coke bottle bottoms, and yes, it's true they had blue rims as one of my grade school guy friends reminded me. Daring to be different, in high school, on the first day of school when we were filling out forms St. Galore I decided I was now JaYne. Yes, I was taking on an affectation that seemed befitting to entering high school. Sr. Natalie, however, used my older sister as a reference point to see if indeed my name had a "Y" in it, to which I think my sister might have responded "What". In college I started out thinking "East Coast Girls are hip and the guys really dig the clothes [we] wear" and stayed in Atchison until it was time for this "White Bird Must Fly Away." I finished at UMD and worked as a bar maid on Cap.
