Janelle's Story
Life
After eleven years of working on juvenile justice reform, NY is finally ready to make significant change!
Summer 2008: Gov. Paterson announced the creation of the Task Force to Transform NY's Juvenile Justice System, and we have been working diligently towards that goal, hoping to have recommendations to the Governor in September 2009. We have been researching models across the country, and have found several that are superior, one in particular that has received the Innovations in American Government award from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government & the Annie E. Casey Foundation. My hope, and my plan, is to retire after this accomplishment, and spend my time creating art, designing jewelry and delighting in my grand-daughter, Ella.

Department and the National Institute of Corrections in the philosophy, principles, and practices of restorative community justice. This training has presented me with an opportunity to train within NY as well as the rest of the country. Currently, I am part of a NY team working with a seven state national initiative seeking to improve our national juvenile justice system. I travel frequently, and I approach my work with passion. I feel truly blessed to have this opportunity to facilitate change.
My current postion, as director of the NYS Community Justice Forum, allows for the growth and development of rational justice policy across NYS. Unfortunately, I am not able to provide a link to the website due to Classmates policy. In 2005, we began an initiative in the City of Newburgh, which is utilized as a statewide model for replication in other jurisdictions. I am pleased and very excited to have brought the work home!
