Janet's Story
After graduating from St. John's Commercial, I went to school at Harding. I married the guy I'd been dating since 10th grade in November of 1966. He was drafted in 1965 into the Army and joined the Navy before his Army induction date. He was stationed in Holy Loch, Scotland when we got married and I joined him there. In 1967 he was transferred to Norfolk, Va and we had our first child, a daughter, Jill in March of 1968. In 1969 we were transferred to Rota Spain where we lived for 6 years and had two more children, Suzanne in Nov. of 1973 and Christopher in January 1974. In 1975 we were transferred back to Va.for 2 years and subsequently lived in Great Lakes, Ill for 4 years and the Mayport, Fl for his final duty station. where I worked for Mayo Clinic for 20 years. I took early retirement in 2008 and my husband is semi retired from his tech rep position with a company that contracts to the U.S. Navy. We like to travel, both in the U.S. and Europe and North Africa. Both our daughters are registered nurses and l ive here near us and our son graduated from the University of North Carolina and still works and lives in N.C. We have 5 grandchildren, Eric 16, Kyle 13, Emily 7, Chloe 3 and baby Jake 6 weeks old. We've had a few medical issues, I've had breast cancer twice and my husband had a heart attack 2 years ago but we're both healthy now and will celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary in November. All in all, life has been good to us and we're grateful for all the blessings we've been given.
