Jan's Story

Jan is from Atlanta, Georgia. Jan's schools include Judson School. Jan later attended Medical College of Georgia (BS, OTR), University of Georgia (Teacher certification middle school), Adams State University (MA Secondary Science Education) Western State College ( teacher certification Special Education), University of Minnesota (occupational Therapy renewal). After leaving Judson in 1970, I returned to Atlanta and attended college at Ga State University where I met my husband, Gary Lewis, who was attending graduate school at the time. We were married in 1973 and began an adventure by driving out to California and eventually settling in Denver, CO. Our son Dylan was born there in 1977. We returned to Georgia in 1978 and I returned to school, attending Medical College of GA where I earned my BS in Occupational Therapy. We lived in Augusta, then moved to Athens where my husband worked for UGA, I returned to school at UGA to become a science teacher and our daughter, Alissa, was born in 1983. We missed Colorado, so in 1990 my husband accepted a position with Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I worked for the local school district for 22 years as regular ed teacher, special ed teacher and school occupational therapist. I am tremendously proud of my children Dylan and Alissa. rried. My son became a United States Marine, graduated from CU Denver, ace fly fisherman and now owns a marketing company in western Colorado. My daughter graduated from Montana State University, served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia, and earned a Masters in Library Sci from UW Madison. She and her husband live in Oregon, where my son in law is a lawyer and Alissa is a yoga teacher, ultra marathoner and stay at home mom to the love of my life, 4 year old grandson, Nicoya. I am currently enjoying retirement with my husband, Gary. We celebrate our 40th anniversary this year. I currently live in Western Colorado, 30 miles from the nearest stoplight and grocery store. I love to ski, fly fish, hike, ride my bike. This winter I spent 6 months in Florida where I began kayaking the ocean, bays, rivers, anywhere with water! Still love to read, attend live performance both plays and music. I am loving photography and have way too many Florida bird pictures. I am also an artist currently working on a series of paintings from the desert; Monument valley and the mountains around Tucson. I credit my experience at Judson for kindling my love of the outdoors and especially the west. If anyone sees this and remembers me, love to hear from you. Jan PS now Grammy of two, Rosalee Rae Lewis arrived in September 2013.
