Janet's Story

Life Updated April 2006 After graduation from Racine Horlick High School in 1972, I went to the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and graduated with a chemistry major and biology minor. My husband Tim Merriam and I were married in August 1977 and lived in Saint Louis while he finished graduate school at Washington University. In 1978 we moved to the Seattle area where we have lived ever since. Our son Nick was born in 1980 and second son Nathan in 1985. After a couple years of working in university labs, I joined Immunex, now Amgen, in 1982 and have enjoyed an interesting career in Biotechnology. It's hard to believe how much time has flown by. My older son Nick is now married and has been accepted into the Pepperdine MBA program. Hope they enjoy living in Malibu! My younger son Nathan is working as a CNA, taking an EMT course ...Expand for more
and is applying to Nursing schools for this fall. Tim is semi-retired from computer consulting and enjoys hiking, biking, backpacking and all things outdoors. My favorite things are to be with family and friends, travel, read, work out and enjoy the many outdoor activities available in Washington state. We’ve built a second home on Lake Chelan and go there every chance we get to soak up the desert sun and have fun in the water. In September, Tim and I are doing a 16-day rafting and hiking trip through the Grand Canyon. I occasionally pass through South Milwaukee when I go back to visit my Mom. The place looks smaller than I remember although all the familiar landmarks are still there. I’m curious sometimes about old classmates and wonder how their lives turned out.
