Janet's Story

Life I married in June 2001 to Alan Heath who is a wonderful man. He is a master electrician for St. Vincent Doctor's hospital. Alan received a promotion in August 2004 to maintenance department manager at St. Vincent Doctor's hospital. My husband is a sweet man. I have no children. I met my husband at church. He has 2 grown children-a son and a daughter. We became proud grandparents in April 2004. My stepdaughter had a boy. We became proud grandparents again of a girl January 2006. I am working on many projects right now. I am helping in the preparation for our Annual Greek Food Festival to be put on in May. I am active in my garden club called "Lilly Garden Club". Every year we have a garden tour of which 6 or 7 families volunteer their garden to display to the public. We charge $12.00/ticket in advance and $15.00/at the door. Proceeds go to our local head chapter Little Rock Council of Gardens which pays for the upkeep of Hillcrest Hall formerly known as Little Rock Garden Center located on Kavanaugh where the meetings are held. Other events take place there as well such as weddings, receptions of different kinds, etc. Flower beds have to be kept up, etc. Also taking acting classes and accent modification therapy to be able to turn my southern accent off. My goal is to do some professional voice-over work locally part-time and other acting that may come my way. This is another career in addition to my existing career as a programmer/analyst. And then a big project I am working on is looking for my birthmother. Yes, I am adopted. I was raised the youngest of 3 and the only one adopted. With both my adopted parents gone and a curiosity that has always been there, I have finally, after realizing that the internet makes it a little easier to search and find, decided to search for my birthmother. Things have come to fruition. My birthmother has been found. She is not ready to meet me yet. She has a lot to deal with and process. Hopefully she will one of these days. She has two wonderful sons with whom I am getting to know. I have recently made contact my birthmother's brothers. They are very nice and have accepted me with open arms. I have a host of cousins as well. I am going to Colorado for a family reunion to meet all of them. My birthfather has been found deceased. So far I am getting to know his oldest 3 children who are older than me. The search is continuing to find 3 more sibs by my my birthfather and 3rd(still looking) and 4th wives(found). Found a cousin on classmates.com. It has been great as he is really nice and has been so gracious to provide me with pictures and info on his Uncle, his dad and others. I have become heavily involved in my church which is the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. I decided to make this my home church after attending a little over a year. I have a sister in my adopted family who has attended 14 years and she has been a great influence in my life. Her husband is John Hawkins(VP/Treasurer) who took early retirement from Dillards a little over a year ago. Of course we are not Greek but they allow converts as there are many. There are many cultures, about 14, in this church which makes it so interesting and unique. I work at the Greek food festival every year helping to mann the drive-thru booth and perform greek dances periodically throughout the 3 day event(retired from dancing). We put on the festival the weekend(3rd) before the weekend of Riverfest. So if you get a chance come join the fun. Starting in March or April we will be advertising so keep your eyes and ears open. When we get to heaven it will be ...Expand for more
the same way. I owned a small home here in West Little Rock which I lived in for over 11 years. I sold that home and bought another one in West Little Rock which my husband and I have lived in since April 2003. School High School was fun. Being in the different clubs and taking the fun classes such as choir and drama made school worthwhile and took the drudgery of studying away. Although I enjoyed learning anyway. College I started at UALR in 1987 and finished in 1999 with a B.S. in Computer Science. It was a joyous occassion to finally make the walk in my graduation ceremony. It was such a relief to finally be done after all those years. I got teary eyed as I made my processions. Workplace I worked for Dillards from 1985 to May 2000. I enjoyed my many years there. Retail is an interesting field to be in. However I had reached a point that I wasn't feeling fulfilled anymore. I left Dillards after being a programmer/analyst for only a short while and went to Wehco Media which is the parent company of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette to be the programmer/analyst over the Democrat-Gazette circulation area but have since moved into the advertising end of things as a programmer/analyst over 8 newspapers. Wehco Media also owns NW AR Democrat-Gazette, Chattanooga Times Free Press, Magnolia Banner, Camden News, El Dorado News-Times, Hot Springs Sentinel-Record and Texarkana Gazette. The newspaper industry is fascinating. It is constantly evolving and there is never a dull moment. Update on the big project of finding my birth family. I have found all of them. All of the known wives and siblings by my birthfather have been found. Am very blessed. My birth mother's family is wonderful and I feel the closest to them. Most of them live in Colorado. Have plans to move to Colorado next summer 2009. After every thing falls into place, my husband will join me up there either latter 2009 or early 2010. My birth mother and I now talk. My mother and I have seen each other twice. It will be a year this September that we first saw each other and the second time this past April. In between visits, we talk most every weekend. UPDATE--Left Arkansas in mid October 2008 to live in Colorado to be near family. It is so beautiful here and I love it. Trying to find work after quitting my job of over 8 years. Hubby got laid off in July after almost 25 years so we figured we might as well move up. UPDATE AGAIN--Have a couple of parttime jobs in the teaching profession. Hubby is still unemployed. Colorado is a beautiful state but has been hit hard with the economic crisis like everyone else has although it's unemployment rate is a little lower than most states. Lots of family here. Try to see my brothers whenever I can. Have seen my mother a lot lately. She has been in poor health and I hope that things are looking up for her. While I grew up in Arkansas, I don't see myself living there again. I may go back for an occassional visit to see old friends. I see myself permanently planted in Colorado with family, making new friends and finding permanent fulltime work. *****UPDATE AGAIN*** My husband had to move back to Arkansas to work but recently got laid off again after one year back at the hospital. Very sadly, my birth Mother passed away over a year ago. Overall, life is GREAT! ***UPDATE AGAIN 2/15/2015*** Hubby got laid off again in December 2011 and moved back. I started a business January 2012, Baklava Unlimited--baklavaunlimited dot com, We are in several stores, Natural Grocers and Whole Foods and some other places. I am substitute teaching, tutoring and teaching at a Community College.
