Janet's Story

Life Life so far has been an exceedingly interesting journey - from SC to NC and back, to Wisconsin (loved it immensely) to New Orleans (grew to love it - and deeply grieve what has happened to my beloved city) then New York, and now Charleston, SC. Education has included two engineering degrees (BS Chemical and ME Civil) with a Masters in Religion sandwiched in between. Occupationally, I have made toxic waste and Ibuprofen as a Chemical Engineer, sat with the infirmed, dying, lonely, troubled and insane as a pastoral care minister with my church and a Chaplain Intern (CPE) at SC State Hospital, and worked with government, public and private clients to address water and wastewater treatment needs. My favorite and so far longest continuous job was working with the NYC Watershed Program in the wastewater treatment upgrade segment - turning sewage into drinking water for the good folk down in NYC. Yes, sewage is my life - or at least a significant aspect of it. But it was time to move "home" to SC, and so I got a job with Earth Tech as their Engineering Dept. Manager in Charleston. I do love Charleston. My husband, David, is an Episcopal priest - and the last few years have been quite a journey with all that has happened. I never thought biblical literalism and fundamentalism would become a major part of "wishy-washy" Anglican theology! I grieve for the intellectual freedom - and ministry!- of my church. David and I have one 22 year old son, William. He is a wonderful young man, with a heart and spirit larger and more generous than any I have met. After a couple of years of Liberal Arts college, he attended community college for construction, and then a "Natural, Sustainable" Design - Build School in VT. His goal is to construct sustainable, energy efficient "green" housing for folk, including the poo...Expand for more
r. While in NY, he lived at the Green Party house where he worked on their campaigns and protests, and makes dinners for the homeless in the park. He moved to Athens, GA in 2007 and we moved to SC a few months later. He has dread locks and an infectious smile, and plays bass guitar. He and his dad (who plays drums) enjoy playing together when he comes by to visit. The dogs, cats and I are sometimes less than thrilled and frequently take refuge in the back yard. My current competitive sport is canine agility with my beloved teammate, Angel, my Belgian Sheepdog. We earned our championship in Canine Performance Events (CPE) in June 2007, becoming the first Belgian Sheepdog team to earn that championship. I find it is about the right speed for me now. I broke my ACL years ago doing Tae Kwon Do, in the last class before my black belt test (I got to watch Will test for his BB while I hobbled on crutches - which was actually wonderful just to be the proud Mom for the day, not a fellow competitor), and found returning to competitive running or TKD to be difficult. Angel is a wonderful, tolerant team mate and we have a blast at a totally ridiculous sport. Angel is also a Therapy Dog and we visit various facilities where she spreads cheer with her Belgian grin! My other passion is Energy Medicine, and I am certified as a Quantum Touch practitioner and instructor. It is a bit like Reiki only I believe easier to learn and actually as powerful or more. It can also be used in conjunction with Reiki. I love working on people and we have had many wonderful results together. It has also saved on veternarian bills - and with 3 dogs and 3 cats, that can be significant! I enjoy teaching it to others. It is wonderful to see what pure consciousness and connecting with the life force energy can do. Expect Miracles!
