Janice's Story

Well, you asked for it and here it is: my story. After graduating from Parker I attended a summer pre college program at Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia. In th fall of 1965 I began my studies at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where I majored in mathematics. When I got to those differential equations, however, I realized that math was not for me. This came as quite a surprise to me but I guess it would have been easier if I had not discovered "The Party" LOL. Anyway to make things easier I chose the low road and changed my major to psychology with a minor in sociology and party, not necessarily in that order. At any rate I continued my studies there until 1968, when I became a child bride. I have two living children, two grandsons and a granddaughter. Between shuffling my duties as a wife and mother I finally earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in December,1971, with a major in psychology and minors in sociology and criminal justice. In September, 1974, I began working for the State of Alabama Department of Disability Determinations where I made disability determinations for the Social Security A...Expand for more
dministration. Around 1980, I started working on my Masters Degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I was now shuffling my duties as wife, mother worker and student. By the Grace of God this was not difficult for me and I earned a Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1982. At some point in time I started Law school At Miles School of Law. I did not get a law degree but oh how I wish I had. I keep telling myself that I am going to complete my studies, then I say "Janice you're too old now". I feel like I will eventually go back. I ended my work career in 1988 and I must admit it feels good to be able to keep on my jammies all day if I want to. I feel as though I have come full circle. I am back in the house I grew up in in the neighborhood which was then called Cleveland Station and I am once again active in the church I where I had my first experiences with the Lord as a child. I will end this by saying that I have had good times and I have had bad times in my life; but when I look around I see that the good times out weigh the bad times I can't complain. And now for all of you who didn't know I am long winded. Sorry!!!
