Janice's Story
Life
I was born and raised in a working class family. We lived in the Old Northeast section of Kansas City where I attended Gladstone Elementary and Northeast Junior High School. In 1963, my parents built a house in the country on my grandparents farm where I started my sophomore year at Park Hill H.S. I worked all through high school and continued working after I graduated. I bought a 1965 Poppy Red Mustang that I wished I'd kept; took my portfolio into Hallmark in 1968, had an interview and was hired on-the-spot as a lettering artist while attending Kansas City Art Institute. Made my first 'life error' by getting married in 1969. I only have one child, my daughter who was born in 1971. My father, my rock, passed away in 1980 at the age of 63--way too young. I finally got divorced in 1984; got braces at age 36 (one of the best things I ever did) and bought my first Thunderbird (a candy red 1985 Turbo Coupe) that I wish I'd kept (sounds like a pattern here, doesn't it?). I met and started dating an incredible man in 1984, but about a year after we started dating he was killed in a car accident--that was one of the most difficult times in my life along with losing both my parents. I married again in 1987; went back...Expand for more
to work at Hallmark Cards in 1989; bought a black T-Bird in 1994 and then another black one in 1996. I 'retired' in May of 1998 after my mother passed away. Went to France in 2003 and again in 2004, both were missions trips; went to Spain & France in 2007, and back to France in 2009 and 2011. Can't wait to go again--flying miles are a wonderful benefit from using our credit card. Went back into braces on September 3, 2008 (right before the big 60) to correct a bite problem...geez. I love to watch drags; love dogs, cats and animals of all kinds, and especially the mountains all over the world. I still love fast cars and always will. I hope people from school will remember me as shy and quiet, but a nice person who treated everyone well. The one person from my past I'd most like to see again probably knows who they are. And if I could have my dream home it would be a colonial period home or a log cabin in the mountains. I would love to hear from any of you out there because life is too short and it's moving way too fast. If I had one do-over, getting married the first time would never have happened and everything after that would be a moot point...but you can't go back. Send me an email. I'd love to hear from you!
