Janice's Story

Life After attending Windsor School (1956-64) and Glenlawn Collegiate (1965-68), I earned my B.A. (French) from the University of Winnipeg in 1971and my Bachelor of Physical Education (elementary specialist) from the University of Manitoba in 1973. I married Ron Wasik from The Pas in 1972 and we have a daughter and a son. Ron and I worked and lived in Ontario for almost 29 years - Ottawa for 5 years, London for 2 years and Kitchener for 21 . I became a French teacher and have had a very rewarding career. I took early retirement from teaching in 2001 and Ron changed jobs, allowing us to move to Tsawwassen, just south of Vancouver. I taught part-time at a private school and retired again in 2006. Our daughter goes to Simon Fraser and our son to UBC, so we are lucky to all live near one another, for the time being at least. I kept in touch with several childhood and school friends over the years, and since moving to B.C., I have located over 300 people that overlapped my years at school. We stay connected mostly through e-mail, and one friend nicknamed it a "cyber-reunion". s in the area I'm visiting. The Vancouver area group has a party a few times a year, plus whenever someone is visiting. We also try to attend the BC Lions versus Winnipeg Blue Bombers football game each fall. My husband retired in April, 2007 and we are enjoying more travelling and recreation. We love to canoe, kayak, camp and scuba dive. I developed rheumatoid arthritis in 1977. There are some activities that I cannot do anymore (e.g. tennis, volleyball) and have to modify some activities, but I am fortunate to be in good health. Ron is a Sea Scout leader and we now have a small sailboat of our own. We enjoy travelling and have visited Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, France, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Shanghai and plan to go to Japan, Poland and South America. In most countries we have visited friends or relatives. My older sister, Barbara and her family live in Edmonton and my younger sister, Lorraine and her family live in our parents' old house. My father and mother died in 1992 and 2001 respectively. Life has been good to me and I am very lucky to have a wonderful family and circle of friends. I welcome the opportunity to find more old friends and help them reconnect with one another as well.
