Janice's Story

Life At my age there is so much I could tell but obviously there isn't enough time or space. I'll share some highlights: Since high school I got married, had 4 children, lived on a farm for 12 yrs and then left that to begin a new stage. Both Irvan and I went back to school in our 30's, he in Agronomy (Land Reclamation) and me in Architectural Technologies (Residential Design & Drafting) That was a tough few years with small children but at the same time very rewarding. I didn't know I was capable of going back to school and actually succeeding. I discovered and developed abilities and skills that have carried me through many changes since then in both my career and personal life. I had several jobs in Residential Design and then helped Irvan with the business side of L9 Consulting Ltd., an Oilfield Reclamation Company. When it got too big with too many employees needing more professionals doing what I had been doing, I backed off. At that time I needed to spend some time homeschooling our son to help him achieve in an area that was not his strength. He successfully graduated from high school and moved on to an Automotive Mechanic apprenticeship, which was much more in line with his talents. Soon after that I purchased and opened a franchise business in our town which has now expanded to 2. Managing and training employees in 2 towns is very stressful at times especially with the employee shortage situation so prevalent in all areas of Alberta business right now. The business itself is very rewarding and being able to see the goals of others achieved is worth it...Expand for more
all. Back to my family. Irvan and I just celebrated our 31th wedding anniversary this past June. Wow, how time really does fly. We are back living on a 1/2 section farm outside of a small town and enjoying the peaceful environment. We have an awesome view of the mountains and wake up to birds singing outside the window every day. Our children are all grown now; our youngest daughter just graduated from high school this last year. At this time 2 of them live in Alberta within easy driving for visits and 2 of them are elsewhere. Our Oldest daughter and her husband have an awesome and brilliant 4 year old son, so yes we are also grandparents. Our second daughter is a very talented and caring Public Health nurse in Abbotsford, B.C. Our son, the mechanic, transitioned a year ago to an oilfield pressure truck operator, because it 'makes more money'. The youngest daughter graduated from high school a year ago and is currently studying in England for 6 months before pursuing a career in esthetics. Grandparents, yikes, that's a newer phase of our life now as we transition from 26 years of children at home to empty nesters and grandparents. It almost makes me wish I was old enough (or rich enough) to just retire tomorrow so I can stay at home, relax, read, travel and enjoy the grandkids. How old do you have to be to retire again? Darn, not there yet. Anybody younger out there want my job? I could ramble on forever but that's it in a nutshell. If you want anymore and you know me from somewhere in my past, please email, and maybe we can catch up. Have a great day Jan
