Janice's Story
Workplace
I work for an international company with 4 locations in the US (Ohio being the home facility) and a branch in the United Kingdom. We also have and affilite in Austrailia.
I have been with the company for 3-1/2 years and recently received a promotion. I am now in charge of keeping the inventory in the computer, adding all new parts and maintaining the complete database for all US locations. I am also responsible for entering the majority of the purchase orders and for entering and following up on all freight claims.
For the last year I have been part of the IT Team (there are 9 of us on the team), sitting through numberous demos and helping in the selection process for a new computer system. Months of set up and tesing and now the real fun will begin - helping to train the other users within the company before we go live with the new software in February. Within the past year, we have also seen my husband Kenny's life long dream come true. Instead of being a company driver for someone, we have become owner-operators with the purchase of a 1996 Freightliner! Our next goal is to purchase a new home and say goodbye to the mobile home we purchased 13 years ago.
Have received another promotion. I am now the Purchasing and Logistics Assistant. I received the promotion in November of 2002. I do most of the purchasing of sourced hardware, fabrics, and pvc for the company. I also assist the Logistics Manager with freight claims and keeping track of incoming overseas shipments, which ties in with my purchasing duties.
We have finally implemented our new software system and after several months, have a lot of the "bugs" worked out. It has been a real challenge being involved in the select, setup and "go live" activities as well as keeping up with all of my other work duties.
