Janice's Story
I was the only one of my eighth-grade classmates not to go to Franklin HS---my folks sent me to the brand new Immaculata Academy at Marycrest (much to my chagrin) out on 136th and Halsey, via school bus, to be taught by Dominican nuns. And that has made all the difference. (That school, later just Marycrest, closed sometime in the late 70's.) Received a superb HS education, then had 2 years at U of Portland, met my future husband, worked for a year at the Federal Reserve Bank in Portland (back when we still had one.), then married in 1965, and in 1966 followed my husband into a 27-yr career in the Air Force. He had assignments in Arizona, Michigan, Puerto Rico, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Illinois, England, Nebraska, Germany and Hawaii. We then lived in Vancouver, WA for a couple years before he took a job in McClean, VA (actually ins...Expand for more
ide the Beltway of DC); after 11 years there, he retired---again---and we returned to Portland in 2006. Have two married daughters, sons-in-law and three grandkids, aged 12, 13 and 9, here in Portland. Miss some of the perpetual blue skies of most of the other places we've lived, but am glad to be home again, and most important, to be able to watch the grandkids grow up. We live downtown now, and I love being able to walk everywhere.
Kept up with Sheryl Neels until she moved away, then kept track of her for some years through her mother. Believe she now lives in Chicago. Would love to know what happened to Sally Lockyear, Janet Day ,etc---all who were in Miss Hodap's class of '58. Everyone in Atkinson's Class of '58 would this year be attending their 50th high school reunion at Franklin. Anyone know when that is??
