Janice's Story

Life Current News: 2010 We're spending a lot of time landscaping the front yard this summer. We are Xeriscaping with all native MB plants. We spent Spring Break in Santiago, Valparaiso, Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in Chile. We visited Tamaya and Anakena Wineries that Rod represents in MB. 2009 We put a Geothermal Heating and Cooling System into the house and had the outside redone in cedar siding we are going to allow to silver. We entertained family who visited from Edmonton, AB & Prince George, BC. Our second grandchild, Claire Rae was born to Jenn & Neil on April 8. She is gorgeous. We are just lovig being grandparents. We spent Spring Break with family in Vancouver. We spent a long weekend in February in Vegas. We stayed at the Bellagio, saw a couple of shows, had an amazing dining experience at Alex at Wynn, great Tapas at Firefly and an awesome vegetarian meal at Mon Ami Gabi, went on a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon, rented a car and drove out to Valley of Fire State Park to hike in to see some petroglyphs, then drove along Lake Meade to the Dam and had dinner in a little wine bar in Boulder City. 2008 Spring break took us on a tour around the Yucatan Peninsula to Merida, Celestun bio reserve, the world heritage site/historic centre of Campeche, Edzna, Sayil, Kabah, Uxmal & Chichen Itza Mayan ruins toppped off with a couple of days in Cancun to relax. Our eldest daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Neil had their first child and our first grandchild, Cameron Robert on September 4, 2007. He is the light of our lives; growing, changing and learning new things daily. Summer of 2007 we went up to Chur...Expand for more
chill for a few days. Swimming with the belugas was a highlight. I also went to Vancouver to visit family and to Seattle to spend with a day with Gwen and her family (an exchange student from France who spent a month with us in 1987). Spring break 2007 was spent in New York and Boston. I presented a paper at the Popular Culture Association Conference in Boston. I spent July 2006 in Edmonton at the University of Alberta finishing the last course for my Master of Education in Teacher-librarianship. Most of the degree was completed through distance education (online) over 3 years. We celebrated in August in Australia and Hawaii! Both were fabulous. Flash from the past: After high school Rod and I got married and had two daughters. Rod went back to the U of M when Jennifer was one and I was expecting Tamara. Rod got his first really decent job with Kraft when Tamara was two. When she was four I went back to school (U of M) on the long term plan. It took me six years to do an Honours Degree in Fine Arts and two more to get my B. Ed. I subbed for a while, then got a position teaching at risk youth (read violent & aggressive). After seven years I needed a change. For five years I taught grade 6 LA & SS although most of my education is in Art. The kids are energetic and fun. This is my fifth year as a teacher-librarian. Rod was with Bacardi for 13 years. Six years ago he began his own business, Aqua Vitae. He's still in the beverage alcohol business. Our girls are happy, healthy and productive. We have had many opportunities to travel within Canada, the Americas and overseas. Life has been very good to us.
