jane's Story
I graduated from Mt. Washington Elementary school in 1958. My teachers were: K-Miss Piper; 1st: Miss Baumgartner; 2nd:Mrs. Thomsom; 3rd: Miss Barkley 4th: Miss Barkley; 5th-Mrs Rose; 6th-Mrs. Saye
The original school was about a 6 room stone schoolhouse, with a seperate kindergarden which was called the 'Annex.' The candy store was Kromers...and we went every day after school. We had: jaw breakers, spearment leaves, Necco wafers, colored sugar dots on long strips of white paper, sugar daddies, and wax lips, wax mustaches and wax t...Expand for more
eeth. There was a gum ball machine; if you got a yellow ball with 2 red stripes mrs. kromer gave you 5 cents worth of free candy, which was a lot in those days.
My best friend was Esther Carliner. Other friends were Barbara Rubin, Terry Dalsheimer, Tillie Radin, Diane Donahue, David Shiling, and Ilene Hearn. My first date (6th grade?) was with Morton Mittenthal, who refused to dance with me. (I was taller than all the boys)
