Jann's Story
Life
I live on a farm in rural southern West Virginia with my husband and three daughters. I am a legislative attorney. My husband is a judge. I still love to ride horses, and I love to hike with my dog on all the old logging trails around our county. I love to read, see movies and travel with my family. I recall Herndon High with affection and would love to hear from classmates.
Workplace
I'm a staff attorney for the West Virginia Senate. I draft legislation, write speeches, address committees and research laws in other states. I love my job, both because I find it meaningful work, and because it's flexible so...Expand for more
that I have lots of time with my husband and school-age children. I work at the statehouse in Charleston, West Virginia, which is one of the prettiest state capitol buildings. Our legislative session runs from January to March most years. My specialties are transportation law, property law and military law. The American Bar Association sent me to Russia and Romania in the late 90s to teach legislative bill-drafting to those emerging democracies. I was especially fascinated by the interest that the Romanian parliament has in the American legislative processes. I was honored to address that Parliament on two occasions.
