Janna's Story
I have lived in southern California since I got married in 1970. For the past 31years I have lived in Diamond Bar, California, although my mailing address and zip code are for Walnut, California. That's a confusing story. I married my college sweetheart soon after we graduated (from different colleges) and we both were teachers for quite a few years. We had 3 children, and lost our first daughter in an automobile accident, along with my mom and one of her best friends from Pensacola days. Our second child is a son, named Ross. He has been married since 2001. Our daughter, Joy, is not yet married. Both finished college, and are employed. Ross and his wife live close by. Joy is currently working as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan. She is now engaged to Brian Mullin, who also works as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan.
I still tutor and teach ESL at Rowland Adult School. All of my private tutoring students now are of Chinese descent and range in grade from 6th to 12th. We currently have two Chinese exchange students living with us and attending a local private Christian high school. Our local community is very multi-cultural with m...Expand for more
any Chinese, Korean, VietNamese, Indian, and other nationalities well-represented.
I have always loved traveling and have been lucky enough to have done quite a bit. We now prefer cruising whenever possible. Our cruise in July 2012 was to Alaska. In July 2013, we cruised the Baltic Sea with our son, daughter-in-law, daughter, her fiancé, and his parents.
I also am an avid gardener with over 50 full size rosebushes and numerous miniature roses, including one named "Janna." I also love orchids, alstromeria, impatiens, succulents, and just about any other plant that I can get to grow. We have more than a dozen fruit trees in our yard, which is 1/3 acre. Our plums and nectarines and peaches are outstanding in the summer, and apples in the fall. The lemon and grapefruit trees produce fruit year around, and orange trees produce oranges in winter and spring.
It is rarely below freezing here in SoCal, but the mountains and snow are only a couple hours away. The beaches are about an hour, depending on which one. Pensacola beaches are still the best. There is no sand here that can even begin to compare with Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach.
