Jannis's Story
Life
Retired in 1999. 2 Children 1 stepson, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
I am a widow. Ugh I hate that word. My faithful dog passed away after 14 years.
2014. I went to Hawaii again. Saw my 3 grandchildren and my 2 great grandchildren (in August there will be 3).
I then went to Russia and took river cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow. I loved it. I have been in almost every major capital of the world and none compares to the wealth and glitz of these cities. The Czars sure spent the money! It was beautiful . The traffic in Moscow made Los Angeles look like a walk in the park. No road rage either. The freeways were great. No potholes. I've never seen 12 lanes of traffic both ways before. It was a very impressive trip.
2015
I had a spiral fracture in my right foot 2 days before leaving on a Alaska cruise and tour od Danali park. It was a no weight fracture so I was in a wheelchair for 6 weeks. I went on the trip and my roommate , Linda Young (widow of Jerry Young who was an alumnus of EMHS) was a treasure. She pushed me around the ship and made sure I had everything I needed. It was a beautiful trip. Danali was the real highlight!
In November I traveled to New Zealand North Island. I loved it! I had just started to walk, so moved slowly and rested often. Hobbit town should not be missed! It was so fun. We traveled from one end to the other then flew to Sydney, Australia. We toured for a couple of days then boarded a ship where we cruised to The Great Barrier Reef. We had a great time snorkeling then we're off to Bali, Java and Singapor. We stayed in Singapor for several nights and toured the Orchid Gardens and the Night Zoo.. Then off to Hong Kong and home.
2016. I now have 4 great grandsons and 5 great granddaughters.. Prolific group of Grandchildren.
My travels so far this year was a road trip ti Grants Pass Oregon to help celebrate my brother, Skip's, 80th birthday.
I am planning another trip in October.
2009 travels..so far
In April I went on a Panama Canal Cruise. It was great. It started in Fort Lauderdale. Then we sailed to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas and snorkeled. Then to Aruba where we toured an Aloe plant and went to a Butterfly farm. I loved the Butterflies. Then to Curacao where we shopped and had a grand time. Going through the canal was long but very interesting. My next stop was Costa Rica where I went on a big Zip Ride. I went with my very dear friend, Cheryl and her cousin Ron and his wife Ann. We all had a blast. In May my other close friend, Pam and I took a Broadway tour and saw 5 great plays and ate like Royalty. If you ever get a chance to see the play Billy Elliot GO. It was the best. August was a trip to Mount Rushmore then over to Chief Crazy Horse (don't miss it). Little Big Horn then off to Sturg...Expand for more
ess and Deadwood. We cut over to Big Sky Montana (a ski lodge that is super in the summer too). Of course we did Yellowstone and a lot of walking to all the wonderful lakes and falls. Went whitewater rafting in the Gallatin
river cool really cool. This trip was with Steve, Marcus, Cheryl and me.It is so great to have friends to share these adventures with. In September I went to DC to lobby in behalf of Credit Unions. My friend Steve and my Grandson Greggory were with me. I go about every other year except election years. This is my 5Th grandchild to accompany me. The first blisters since I was in my 30's. We did a whole lot of walking and and meeting our congressmen. We didn't have tea in the White House. They probably weren't in town. I plan on a Rhine River cruise in November. All this and season tickets to the Pasadena Playhouse, Ahmanson Theater, Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Chandler, Musical Theater West and am on a credit union board. I am trying to do some of the things I was afraid to do when I was young. Also am not going to have any pity parties. A moving target so they say.
in 2007 & 2008 I did a lot of traveling (Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Spain, France & Mexico). I have a few more trips planned and one is to spend some time in Grants Pass, Oregon with my brother. I remember so much of the old days..can't remember yesterday..My brother is Skip Lowe and sister is Claudia Lowe. I miss the El Monte that was...
In April, 2006 I spent 2 weeks in Egypt with my sister, Claudia. We were up and down the Nile and saw so many
temples and tombs that have survived the elements and especially people for 5000 years. Wow, and we think we are getting old. Then in July I took a class in Oxford, England after which went to Paris during the Bastille holiday celebration. I have since been there twice and was able to go to the Normandy beaches. In all my travels I have to
say everyone was nice to us. I never felt any ill will anywhere. That does say a lot for the rumors of the world.
2015. Since I've written that I've been to Holland, The Netherlands, Belgium . I loved them all and would go back in a minute. Last year I went to Russia. It was beautiful. Everyone was super nice. Glad I went then. This year God willing and the creek doesn't rise, I will be going to Alaska with my brother and New Zealand and Australia with my friend Cheryl.
Workplace
I started working right out of school as a "Juice Girl" at one of the Vons stores. When I retired I was an Accounts
Payable Supervisor in their main office. I met and worked with a lot of wonderful people. I am presently a volunteer
on Vons Credit Union board. This gives me great pleasure and a continued association with the greatest group of friends that are the staff, management and fellow board members.
