Jared's Story
Life
I live in Roswell, New Mexico and teach at the New Mexico Military Institute (N.M.M.I.). My academic rank is full professor (tenured) and my honorary military rank is full colonel. Faculty at N.M.M.I. hold honorary commissions as special aides-de-camp to the Governor of New Mexico. I teach five classes per semester: two in the college preparatory school and three in the college, including American National Government, Intro. to Political Science, Comparative Politics, and International Relations. I've published small works in several national and regional publications, but I mainly focus on classroom teaching. The 2021 Academic Year will be my 16th year of full-time teaching. I previously taught at Cardinal Stritch University (2015), Ohio University-Zanesville (2007-2014) and Miami University-Hamilton (2005-2007).
When I am not teaching, I spend my free time traveling, rowing, and I'm actively involved with the Episcopal Church. I really enjoy living in the Chihuahua Desert and taking in the beautiful desert vistas. One of my goals is to visit all ...Expand for more
national parks in the United States. So far I've visited about 25 of them (about 1/2). Last year I took up rowing to stay in shape. So far I've rowed over 1 million meters and I should surpass the 2 million meter mark before next summer. I mostly row on an indoor rowing machine, but occasionally I get the opportunity to row outdoors on New Mexico's lakes and rivers.
In 2019, I traveled to six countries in Europe on an educational tour (United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Austria). My favorite stop was 3 days/nights in Paris. In 2020, I became a homeowner, purchasing a small house in Roswell. Next summer (2022), I'm planning a two week trip to the Hawaiian Islands, splitting the two weeks between three different islands.
