Jarrod's Story
Life
I'm not married and I don't have any kids and I don't really date that often at the moment but I have a dog that's always happy to see me, so that's nice. I kinda bounced around a bit after highschool and college and until recently never quite figured out what to do when I "grow up". I kinda fell assbackwards into some good fortune and now I own a driving range as a joint venture with my dad. I'm the quintessential underacheiver that for whom things just kinda worked out for due to life's circumstances. I've been, in rough chronological order, a mallrat, a carpenter, a contractor, a personal trainer (best job to meet women EVER...shame I was with someone the whole time I was doing that), and now a small-business owner.
I tried to join the military in 1999 because I was bored with my life and bored with school and didn't know what I wanted to do. I was joining the Navy to run the nuclear reactors on the submarines and/or aircraft carriers. I got a 99 on the ASVAB and then I got a 70 on the nuke test. They rejected me though because further examination of my medical records and my big mouth revealed that I had had 6 concussions by that time. Then after 9/11 I tried to join again and was hoping they would have forgotten about the whole "Jarrod Wade is damaged goods" bit. They didn't.
As far as my personal life, I'm recently (9/2005) out of a serious long term multi-year whatever. I thought we had a future together and I guess she didn't. Oh well. If every other part of my life didn't kick so much ass I guess I'd worry about it more seeing as how I'm coming up fast on 30 in a few years, in no real relationship, with no real prospects, and the knowledge that by the time my dad was my age I was already 6 years old, but it doesn't get me down. of people a lot worse off than I am so I can't really complain. At the very least I guess there's no pressure to ditch the convertible and get a sensible family car, especially since my sister is married and has a kid. Rock on, no expectations!
In my spare time, I play a lot of poker online and at certain places I know of in and around town. I've even got into some of those satellite tournaments where the winner gets a $10k seat at the WSOP. My best finish is 4th place. I also play softball a few nights a week and paintball when I feel like taking out the frustrations of life on groups of 10 year olds.
I don't play well enough I don't think to justify spending that kind of money on what could be lost in one day, but I would like to one day compete in one of the smaller buyin tournaments they have during that time. I haven't been to Vegas in eighteen months now as of November '05 and I do want to head back soon. I love that place. I'd live there if it wasn't so damn hot. I've been to Oklahoma and Shreveport, but it's just not the same.
For hobbies, I am looking into starting up homebrewing. I want to be like Drew Carey on his old TV show and have my own beer business on the side. I'm not sure of the legalities of all that though. But I suppose I'll start small at first.
I still love the Cowboys. I've had some rough Sunday afternoons the past 8 or 9 years or so, but things look to be righting themselves, so my Mondays are usually a bit more cheerful this year. That's always nice when Mondays start so early now.
I can proudly say I've never bothered to have a desk job working in some souless office for a boss I hate writing reports and reading memos. Sure, I stopped to smell the roses along the way to where I am now, but they smelled great. And now, by some fluke bit of luck I get to do it whenever I want. Life is awesome.
