Jarvis's Story

Life Although, I attended three high schools, in the entire extent of my high school career, I miss Northside, the most. Those days were very fullfilling. Even though I fought my mother, in coming to Northside, it's was one of the best experiences of my life. Northside, was a place where we were able to be ourselves, experience life, and develop, not only our talents, but our minds, as well. They constantly stressed that we weren't special 'cause of our talents, but because of our ablitiy to develop our minds, as well as our musical ability. That was a once in a lifetime experience, for most of us. I, unlike others, I know, really enjoyed my high school days. I made some life-lasting relationships, at all three high schools. Some good, and some not so good(MLP?), but in everything, I learned to accept people, for who they are, not for what I wanted then to be. As I sit here, typing this, watching, Spike Lee's, "Girl Six"(2001), it reminds me how funny life is(2003), and what God does, when He's trying to get our attention. There are many things we as people need to realize, and one main thing, is that God loves us, for who we are, not for who He wants us to be. He said, "Come to me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I'll give you rest." Northside has taught me alot. It taught me to love me for me. There were alot of different people, at NHS, and all of us, learned to accept each other, for who they were, not for who we wanted them to be. NHS also taught me how to compete for what I wanted; it taught me to study hard, to be ahead of the rest; it taught me how to be the best that I could be. And for that I'll be forever greatful. NHS, ya'll remember Mrs. Hastings? Well, she was one of the toughtest persons on me. I don't think she really cared that much for me, being that me and Mildred Lee, were the class comedians, along with Tray Johnson, and Pam Johnson, but in all that she tried to d...Expand for more
o to me, I saw something trying to push me to the next level. To the next glory. Trouble is not always meant to destroy us, but most times, it's meant to push us into destiny. If we were never challenged, then we might not try the impossible, or attempt the unreasonable. Thanks, Mrs. Hastings. And Thanks, Northside. John Ray "Genre", was one of our vocabulary words, that always messed me up. She gave us that word every week, and we would get it wrong, everytime, lol. Wow, funny how life changes you. Funny how life is!!! God help us. Grady taught me to live life for the moment. I went to Grady the summer of my freshman year, before entering Northside, also in the year of 1986 - 1987. While there, it was a cheerleader, by the name of Deborah Ross. She was in my home room. At Grady, we would return back to our homerooms, before being dismissed for the day. This particular weekend, I had seen Deborah, in homeroom, and back in homeroom, at the end of the week. We left on a Friday, and by Monday, she was reported dead, from a blood clot. She was taking birth control pills, and had a bad reaction to them. That really took me for a loop. Only those at Grady, Class of '88, knows what I'm taking about. That taught me, to live life for the moment, because you don't know what tomorrow holds. Therrell, what can I say. THS brought me down-to-earth. That was a time that really, developed me, into who I am today. Just R-E-A-L!!! Tigers, Trojans, Panthers, Oh, my! I never went to Mays, but if I had my choice, from middle school, I would have been a, "Raider for Life!" You heard me!!! (Had to have been in the know, to know what I'm talking about.) Omega Gents!!! Perious Pearls!!!!! Never Change!!! I'm ready for my close up, Mr. Deville!? My mojo is back(06/14/2007), as well, lol. Thanks Austin Powers, lol. (Northside drama, right Mildred!!!) I miss you, so much!!! My one true friend.
