Life After high school, I attended Austin Peay State University, earning my BA in four years. During I my junior year I married a girl from Ashland City, Tenn., I continued my education and finished all my coursework for my MA. In an effort to pay back student loans, I joined the Army. Before entering the service my wife and I divorced. I served four years as a public affairs specialist. I spent most of my enlistment at Fort Campbell, Ky, just north of Clarksville, Tenn. This is where I met my wife, who already had one son, who I promptly adopted at his father's request. My job at Fort Campbell started as a writer/photographer for the post newspaper. I quickly became the editor of the news section of the paper and eventually became the editor of the whole 32 page paper which was subsequently voted the best paper in the Army. During this time my daughter was born. I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and became the noncommissioned officer in charge of a seven soldier public affairs detachment.
