Jason's Story

Life My life took a turn for the worse in October 2001. I needed a neck operation and when I went in to have it done, the plate they put in my neck slipped out, wiping out most of the use of my right arm. Two days later, they tried the operation again, but the breathing machine they put me on shut down, forcing them to put in an emergency breathing tube in my neck. I have recovered enough to use my right arm again, but still unable to drive. College After Centerville, I sat out a semester before going to Indiana University East. I went there part time for four years, including sitting out a year due to the operation I had, but I never had an idea of what to major in. When I came back to IU East, my brother and sister asked me if I would major in Early Child Education (ECE) I gave it a few thoughts and then I decided to transfer to Ivy Tech State College to major in ECE. I am still going part time and it will be a few years before I graduate. Workplace I have never really had a steady job except being a sports manager. I have worked as a sports writer in te Centerville Crusader, before it closed; I worked with the Richmond Roosters in 1998 and 1999; I worke...Expand for more
d in The Indiana University East Child Development Center Jan 2001 to Oct 2001 and August 2002. I have stuck with sports after my high school days being the IU East Men's basketball manager in 1999-00 and 2000-01, where I became great friends with the head coach out there. I would have done it in 1998-99, but I was supposed to have a player on the team get with me on being on the team, but I did not hear from him in time. I finally caught that person towards the end of the semester and met the coach sometime later. After my second season, the coach was fired and I was let go because of grades. I sat out a year because of the operation, but I came back in 2002-03 and helped my friend when he was a girls coach at National Trail. We left the end of that year when the coach refused to be demoted to junior high girls coach. In 2003-04 We were at Richmond High School with the 9th grade girls team. I had even more interest helping with this team since one of the girls on the team is the daughter of one of my former teachers. They were an interesting group to work with. Overall I have had 10 years experience as basketball manager and I am looking forward to many more.
