Jay's Story

Life Hey All! I've been around the globe a few time! I wound up in school in Oklahoma for a while, got married, got divorced(caught her with my frat brother) moved back to KS in Topeka became a Shift Manager for Pizza Hut (Whew hew!) Decided to go back to school at Pittsburg State and graduated with a B.S. in Psychology/Natural Science and Math and Minored in Sociology. I then moved to K.C and began counselling adolescents and pre-adolescents at Providence Medical Center. I had a fourteen year old female Pt(240lbs) kicked out my knee and I was lucky to have a nursing manager that went to school with Chris Barnthouse(he does the Chiefs sports medicine and surgery). He rebuilt it as good as new and said as long as I rehab'd as he told me I'd never notice. Functionally he was correct but I can tell you when it's going to storm. I then was laid off and started my own auto repair company and after a year was tired of fighting the tax happy Gov and closed it. I kept the equip and have an alignment machine that I will install at my house eventually. I became a Manager of Vehicle services with Firestone and met Susan. She's from Memphis TN and was with Sprint. We had a son (that I got to deliver at home) and at six weeks he had an aneurism in a part of his brain that stopped his breathing. I had healthcare provider CPR and EMT training and got him to the hospital alive and viable. The ER Doc installed a device for transport to allow the Paramedics to disconnect him from the respirator and transport him without delay or loss of O2 blood saturation to a specialty hospital in KC MO. They pulled the tube and F'd up reinserting their own. Long story short he passed eight weeks after he was born. He was named Drew Michael Atkin 02-01-00 to 04-01-00. This as you can imagined jacked me up emotionally for a while (much more to that whole situation okay to ask)and I have just recently recovered from PTSD concerning the whole event. I went back to school and have recently finished my Intermediate level training for EMT. I am now working as an EMT in Topeka. Very exciting and the training has also allowed me to identify what exactly went wrong with the system concerning Drew. I also have a son with a female social reject in KC, I don't get to see him much unless his granddad and I plan out something covert. Unfortunately, we got busted by Alexander Drew's mother and haven't seen him since 03. I plan on fighting for him in court when I get back financially. Okay that is the past couple decades except I forgot to mention being a medic for an All Star(GIRLS!) BB team to the Soviet Union in 89-90 that was...Expand for more
really cool and got to save a Patient in Leningrad from a diabetic emergency. Okay, currently I have been building a monster (it turned into ) of a house. 4 stories counting the basement. As I went higher it was such a great view I couldn't resist, and I overbuilt the crud on it so it wasn't a problem. I still have a way to go to finish but, at least I have a roof on it to keep us dry. The us. My wife Susan is an electrical design engineer at the Nuke Plant N of Burlington and we have a 7 year old girl named Rachel Michelle, she's great and yes has Dad wrapped around her finger. I'm going to be hard pressed to keep up with her in High School as she is smart and ornery. I think my Dad's curse will get even for all I did when I was young and dumb. We live West of Burlington KS. I hope to see you all at the 2010 reunion I hope all of you are doing well and have healthy, happy families. I miss all of you and remember fondly our school years, mostly the good stuff, the bad stuff wasn't that bad looking back. If I caused some pain or hurt to someone I apologize profusely and looking back I realize what a large and calloused world we went out into. Blessings to all and be safe. Jay Drew Atkin Update,2007 Was awarded the American Ambulance Association's National Star of Life award, the highest EMS award in the US, Wow what a honor and in my profession we don't blow our own horn.Saving lives is just what we do and that's reward enough. Pretty cool though. However, when I was in Washington DC receiving the award, I saw how messed up our government is and the delaying tactics that are used to remove the public's opinions and taking issues important to all of us and delaying bill until the media stops reporting on them. So much more on this subject that just burns my ss. Hope you all are well and see you in 2010. Oh yes, Janet doesn't want to organize the reunion this time so she asked me to help. If anyone has info on our classmates send it to me. Also, do we want to have it in KC or Wichita this time, let me know your opinion! Later, Jay D. 2009 Update, finishing Paramedic class and watchiing while our country get hosed with debt. Think I might run for an office at least to try to help fix things and get this incredibly stupid irresponsible debt off our kids and grandkids. Doing internship this spring, still wanting input on what you all want to do for the reunion in 2010. I'll be upgrading this site to receive email here and I'll give you my regular one when you contact me. Look forward to seeing everyone and catching up. At the last one we read the year book prophecies, WOW Scary! Jay
