Jay's Story
School
When I look back at my years in Randolph, I can only laugh. I was a major dweeb just trying to find his way into the society of school kids. Mostly, I failed. I was a chubby kid with funny glasses, and kids can be cruel. It didn't help that I was also a smartass, reacting to a feeling of injustice. The great thing about our 25th reunion, which just took place in June, 2003, was that all these people from my past approached me and recalled good memories that we had shared. So, I guess the moral is that you never know how many lives you have touched, even if you grew up simply thinking you were a loser and a pariah. This knowledge is very sweet and rejuvenating. It will help me as I proceed through this wild event called life.

olph in the 60s, however, I don't know if it was much better: I was assessed as a troublemarker in Martin E. Young School and disturbed. I was punished (heavy ruler on the open palm - thanks Mrs. McKenzie, you snooty harpy), sent to the Principal's office (Mr. Francis Dodero) and finally sent to a therapist for three years. Anyhow, I guess I learned a little about self-awareness from that experience. But it never calmed me down or focused me work-wise. In my years since high school, I have mostly been a journalist and writer. But I have also been a film maker, publicist, political activist (several arrests to my name in the name of civil rights), collage artist and memorabilia salesman on eBay. At 48, I am still trying to find myself, but have finally resigned myself to the notion that I will always be a wandering soul, restlessly roaming and looking for the next phase of my life and career.
