Jay's Story

Life I used to say I wanted to be the next voice of the Dallas Cowboys. I'm not there yet, but you might say I'm on my way. I now work full time at KRXT 98.5 in Rockdale. I work on news and I'm calling the action for all the basketball, baseball and softball games. I had a chance to meet the voice of the Dallas Cowboys, Brad Sham, in the summer of 2004 and met the voice of the San Antonio Spurs, Bill Schoening, in the summer of 2002. In my line of work, it's a big thing to meet those 2 guys. They were the ones that got me interested in the radio business in the first place. I've called the action for a couple of Thrall basketball and baseball playoff games over the past several years, and I've served on the broadcast team when we've covered Thrall football in the playoffs in recent years. I cover the Rockdale High School basketball, baseball and so...Expand for more
ftball games. I've done some "contract" work for radio stations around the state that cover some private schools. Those games are available on the internet. If you're curious, drop me a line and I'll let you know how to access those games. Also, our radio team normally covers Rockdale High School, but during the weekend of Hurricane Rita, games were rescheduled--Rockdale played on Thursday, so I had a chance to see Thrall beat Thorndale in football for the first time in 17 years (1988). In my line of work, I have to be diplomatic about things like that, but it certainly was nice to be there for that game. On the flip side, I had a chance to broadcast Thorndale's baseball state championship in the Spring of 2005. That was an experience. Sports broadcasters always want the chance to broadcast a championship of some kind, so that was a great experience.
