Jayne's Story
Life:
Wow how things can change so quickly in someone's life. It has been a few years since I have updated this page but lots certainly has happened. I have retired from teaching, become a grandmother, and found that my time is still short doing the things I like to do. However, I do get to enjoy so many things, that I must say things are truly interesting. I have done a lot of travelling over the last couple of years and had the opporturnity to see some countries that weren't even on my bucket list:)) I am grateful for every day and every person who has touched my life. My family, friends and faith keep my bucket full.
Life
I have just gotten to the point in my life where I have some time for myself and I find myself wondering about the people I have known in the past particularly when I went to school in Rexdale. You really don't know what you had until you don't have it anymore. Life at that time for me was a very simple family life and growing up there was full of lots of good memories. Since then much has happened. I have two children and a husband. My daughter (twenty-two) is away at university in Northbay and my son (twenty-four) has just recently moved out of the house. So now with a husband who is away most of the time through the week, I have a great deal of time to fill in with hobbies. I spend time at the gym several times a week as well as visiting with friends, and much time with my pets. I have two dogs and a cat. My little dog Cookie is especially important to me. She can be a real pest as she really enjoys going for walks and bugs you until she gets one. I enjoy art- painting and reading.
School
Having gone to school in Rexdale for part of my elementary schooling, I have attended five schools. My time at Albion Gardens Public School was full of some particularly good memories. I also at...Expand for more
tended Thistletown Middle School for grades seven and eight. I remember it as a scary time as the principal Mrs. Mulford, was placed there to reform the school and it's students. I remember the YMCA which was right next door as being somewhat of a hang out. My mother would have killed me if I had stepped inside that building. One of my most memorable times was as a student at North Albion Collegiate when I was able to go on a Mediteranean Cruise for three weeks as a school trip. I think the trip only cost about four hundred dollars. Can you imagine! After attending North Albion Collegiate for grades nine through eleven, we moved to a small town up north and I finished high school. I love living in a small town. Going to school here was much better for me as I could get to know the staff and students more. It was a small high school and everyone knows everyone else. I felt much more confident here.
College
I have attended three universities- Trent University, Guelph University and the University of Toronto. I wish I had gotten more involved in university life but I missed my home and family. I made many good friends in university and have kept up with some regularly. I really found out how small the world was at school as someone always knew someone else that I knew. It was this way that I met one of my very best friends from Pembrooke.
Workplace
I have taught elementary school for twenty-six years. The time has flown by so fast. I taught junior grades mostly for about twenty-five years but last year I changed grades to a grade two/three class. I loved it!! It was a great deal of work and money to prepare for the new grades but worth it. This year I feel very lucky to have a straight grade two class. I have a fabulous teaching partner who has been great to work with and to share ideas and resources with.
