Jean's Story
I spent my first 16 years on Ruby St. in Redwood City before I married a Sequoia H.S. "jock" - oh, so young - and had two girls before I was 18. I struggled for some years with being a single Mom. Many things have changed for me. I went back to school and have been a watercolor, digital & graphics artist for over 20 years. I taught myself to put up a web site a few years later. I've been happily married since 1986. George and I met late, so all of our children are grown. We moved from Morgan Hill in 2005 to Willits in Mendocino County, and were lucky enough to find our way-better-than-anything-we-could-dream house. We fit here so perfectly, and we've met many new friends. Our yard is bird paradise. I'm involved with the Willits Community Theater (scenery & props), and we both take classes at the Jr. college. We never thought we'd ever leave Morgan Hill, but the time was right, and the real estate market too good to ignore. Now we wouldn't live anywhere else. 2/28/2009
I am a "Marijuana Artist". My work is mostly my own original photography enhanced in Photoshop, although I'm now creating cartoon characters, too. As aÃÂ former prize-winning watercolorÃÂ painter, I learned about textures, colors, and composition so that when I turned to the c...Expand for more
omputerÃÂ I already had an eye for what I wanted. George has Glaucoma and was the inspiration for my subject matter. I've been using graceful cannabis in my art since the early 1990s (online starting in 1998) and have tried to be honestÃÂ about my feelings toward this wrongly maligned herb. They haven't come to get me yet :).
I've spent 20 years being the cheerleader for the rights of patients and everyday people using marijuana for whatever they think is good for them. Now that I'm older, it makes more and more sense, too. Anyone over 50 should be able to smoke for living in that same body for all those years. Things wear out! And it's not Oxycodone! My art is my soapbox, and a completely different look at this lovely herb - more female centered, less testosterone drenched. Hahahaha!
Some will think this is a worthless cause, but fighting ignorance is never easy. In high school, I always heard about the "greasers" that hung out at Bestos and smoked marijuana. Too many people still believe that stereotype. Millions of diverse people have smoked marijuana without harm. The reason marijuana is dangerous is that it's illegal. I lost George almost six years ago now. Being by myself has been a time of learning about me and appreciating my life.
