Jean's Story
What a blessing my life has been.
I have traveled to every state in this amazing country and loved every one of them. I have lived in two foreign countries and loved them too. I love to travel and have been so lucky to get to a few of my fantasy destinations (like China and Scotland). Of course, I still have a long list! Most of which involve a beach!
I served 3 years in the US Army. Took advantage of my GI Bill benefits and finally went to college at 28. Probably a better choice than going at 18 as I studied instead of partying. Moved around a lot (my ex-husband was in the military) so didn't really have a chance to start a career--until I got divorced. I was a Business Controller with Nokia for 17 years. I don't think that is exactly what I dreamed of doing when I was growing up but I was good at it. And I did love my job and the great people I worked with. I retired in 2015.
I am so lucky to still have both of my parents (90 years young and married 7...Expand for more
0 years) living within 45 minutes. My younger sister Kay and her husband as well as a niece, 3 grandnieces, a grandnephew and a great grandniece also live within 20 miles. I hadn't lived near family in 24 years when I moved here. Unfortunately, my older sister Gail passed away in December 2008. But there are so many great memories of our times together.
In 2012, I started fostering Australian Shepherds for a national Aussie rescue. It has been fun and rewarding. Have met some wonderful people and have had the pleasure of "touching" many of these great dogs. Everyone thinks it should be hard to give up the dogs you foster but the smiles of the adopters and the wiggling butt of the dog when they know they have found the loves of their lives make it easier to see them leave my home and go to what will hopefully be their "forever" home. It has really made me realize that "to be blessed, you must be a blessing."
Life is a journey. Don't pack too much baggage.
