Jean's Story
Life
After sticking around Hobart until 1984, I struck out on my own and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. I started out as a travel agent in Gary and Crown Point and continued as one in Colorado. I met my husband and we were married in 1985. We have two sons (20 and 21 as of 2008. We lived in CO for seven years before moving across the US to Massachusetts. Stewart was hired by Digital (now Intel) to be a Senior Maintaince Engineer. Intel laid him off after 18 years and he nows works at Raytheon, doing about the same thing. He maintains the computers that make the chips. I continued as a travel agent for about a year and a half. Then I quit to stay home with my kids and I started my own daycare. ime to become a Medical Assistant. I currently am a Certified Medical Assistant and a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator. I do clinical research. My company does the human testing phase of drugs before they are FDA approved. The clinical research we have done has seen many new medications that you probably have seen in TV ads and read about in magazines come to fruition. I am also going to school very part time to become an RN. Since I do the work of an RN, I guess it is time I get paid the same as an RN. Well, as of January 2009 I accepted a position at Porter and Chester Institute as an instructor of Medical Assisiting. I've been promoted to the Education Supervisor of the Medical Assisting Department.
