Jean's Story
Life
After high school graduation I worked for about a year, then joined the military (Navy) as I always planned to. I became a firefighter/welder and was assigned to a submarine-tender in San Diego, where I met my husband. I was married in June 1989 to a submariner, Mike Rice. June 2009 will mark our 20th wedding anniversary.
After I left the Navy we We had our first son in September '90, second son in December '92. I started studying Mass Media (Radio Journalism) and Equine Management at Santa Rosa JC. While the boys were toddlers I had to quit school before I graduated, then had our daughter in June '97.
I was a Stay-At-Home-Mom for 14 years, When our daughter started school full-time I did doo, I spent four years as a triple-major (Journalism/Political Science/Anthropology) at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I graduated, minus the political science major (it...Expand for more

I'm finally back where I belong on the West Coast as a reporter in small town.

Now I'm in Brookings, Oregon and I don't plan on going anywhere for a while.
School
After graduating from Piner High, I joined the Navy, where I went to firefighting and welding school. I returned to finish my Journalism (News-Editorial) degree and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Colorado. I graduated in May 2008 and went to work as a reporter at the Curry Coastal Pilot in Brookings, Oregon.
