Jeanette's Story
Hello, all!
My new/renewed friend, Mary Clark, urged me to get my Classmates membership renewed. I think that she has done a much better job of staying connected to old friends throughout the years, while I (sad to say) have fallen off of the face of the earth...or so it would seem. (Mary and I were buds throughout elementary school and have rekindled our friendship, following my husband's and my recent relocation to the Sierra foothills town of Placerville.)
So, I guess that I have a relatively new life (with my husband of six years) and a new (old) home in the town of Placerville, which we love. I've been working as an independent grant writer for several years now, after a long career in the hospital/social services/healthcare settings followed by the non-profit sector as a fund raiser. My last full time job was in fund development with City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley - an AmeriCorps or domestic Peace Corps program - where I had the privilege to work with a really talented team and idealistic 18-24 year olds who were ¿out to change the world.¿
In my independent consulting role, I enjoy the flexibility and the good feeling of helping support health care and social services for people in need. My husband, Tony, is retired from the City of San Jose. We enjoy getting outside to walk our dog Freya (a 14 year old German Shorthair) or hike/snowshoe in the majestic Sierra¿s. We've been learning to play golf and someday soon we'll put those lessons and many outings to the driving range to good use! We love to travel and are planning a trip to Germany/France sometime in the fall. Tony's oldest son, Ed, is doing some work at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin and we're excited about visiting him.
Our other kids are also happy and doing well and I am very excited about being a new grandmother! My son Kyle, and his wife Charity, live in Oakdale. Daughter Hayley is back from college in New York and hoping to get into grad school in the near future. Katrina is finishing up her studies at San Jose State and is looking forward to a winter graduation.
I enjoy music - I'm a big fan of Americana, Indie, Celtic, Old Time and Bluegrass music, and really like going to outdoor festivals. I've been playing the fiddle and mandolin off and on for a number of years and enjoy attending an occasional Old Time "jam" or workshop. I am also a DSHR member for the Red Cross and served on a hurricane team in Miami following "Wilma."
Enough about me. It would be wonderful to hear from old friends - so please do leave a "hello" if you stop by!
Cheers~
Jan
