Jeanette's Story
Life
After I left high school I met my husband. He was just returning from Germany. He was in the last group to be drafted before they stopped. We dated for 3 years and got married in 1977. We moved to Rancho Cucamonga in 1978 and my son was born 2 weeks later. He's 30 now. I also have 2 daughters, 28 and 21. I lived in the same house all my life in Torrance until I married. We have now lived in the same house for 30 years and my children were all born here. I work for Alta Loma High School now in Special Education. I counsel at risk high school students. Help them learn coping, living and just effective living skills. I worked with mentally handicapped high school students before this for 5 years, teaching them how to function in the outside world. Both jobs are very rewarding. I guess I married the right man because we're still together. We have 4 beautiful granddaughters, Lily 7, and Gianna 6, Leila 3, and Elani 15 months. I am awaaiting the birth of my first grandson in November. My son has the oldest one Lily 7, and Leila 3, and our grandson in Nov. His girls look like twins. Beautiful. The other two are Gianna 6, and Elani 15 months. They are my older daughter Jill's. I guess we might just have to start a girl's soccer team, since we will now have 4 granddaughters! We really enjoy our family. We've done pop warner, cheerleading, soccer, baseball with our kids and are now ready to do it over with our grandkids. My youngest daughter graduated from high school and is going to start her college education to be a child/adolescent psychologist. My parents are both still alive and enjoying life. (Sad to say my father passed away October 29, 2005) They sold their house in Torrance in 1978 and moved to Tehachapi. We see them as often as we can. I guess my life has turned out pretty much like I thought it would. I'd like to hear from any of you that remember me. My email should be available to you here. May we all ke...Expand for more

School
I went to Crenshaw Elementary from kindergarten to 8th grade. I guess my favorite teachers there were Mrs. Strong in kindergarten and Mrs. Hart in 3rd grade. It was in her room that we heard President Kennedy was shot. She was very emotional. I also remember a teacher, Mr. Rowe who used a ruler on student's hands for punishment. My class were all pretty much just a bunch of friends. We all hung out together and even went to dances at a place called Co-Rec. Steppenwolf, Canned Heat. Remember? Mostly everyone just hung out together. Me, Wendy Hirata, Debby Fletcher, Diana Alvarez, Joanne Simpson, Karla Passer, Charlotte Freeman, Kathy Gilstrap, Gary Burtle, Gary Owen, A Chris and another Gary who lived on Cerise, Jeff Tanner, David Irelan, Margie Whipple, Lex Eyestone and alot I can't remember. I'm sure most of you from Crenshaw remember Rexeen Hakala. High School was fun. I still was close friends with Wendy Hirata and met and became close with Teri Colclasure and Beverly Geraths. High School for some reason is a little blurred. Do any of you remember Ellen Fukanaka? I knew a lot of people in high school but alot of the names are not so fresh in my mind. My cousin did marry one of my high school classmates, Gloria Macias. In high school I guess you become friends with people from all grades so it's not as easy to remember. I did have one teaching team of two men that taught some kind of history. I remember I really liked that class. They were great teachers together and gave students more motivation than most. I just can't remember their names. High School then was pretty close to how it is now where I work. At lunch everybody is out on the quad. Each different group has a different area. Same today where I work. Only thing different are the names of the groups. Remember the Racers, Lowriders, Rah-Rah's, and Jocks? Memories, I guess I'll add more if I think of them.
