Jeanne's Story

UPDATE ADDED ON MAY 2009 (down below) Life Well, I finally got out of the state of Fla.....and moved up to a little town in the North Ga Mountains, called Blairsville. My husband, Terry, and I retired to enjoy the good life now. Since graduation I have done alot, especially in the job department. I have been a telephone operator with some of my old buddies from "71, I worked in a few banks, was manager of a restaurant where they train race horses in Deleon Springs Fl, and worked as a bartender for Olive Garden for a few years. Personally, I love retirement !! We have owned homes in Pompano, Ft. Lauderdale, moved to Deland Fl and lived in an area called Glenwood, then off to another town about 10 miles away called Deleon Springs. That home had about 3 acres to support our horses and hobbies. That was home for about 20 years, until Terry decided to retire. That's when we made our "big" move up to the mountains and own a cute home with a large creek on about one acre. No horses though. Right now we are still in the process of learning about our town. It's only about 22 miles outside of Murphy NC. It's small, which we like. No lines, no waiting, people smile, and of course the seasonal changes. We hope to see our first snow this winter. We have one daughter, Kristin, who is 26 now. She has a degree in networking, but decided to go the route of a web designer. Right now she is in the process of setting up her own business. It's called Mountain Creek Designs.com if anyone is looking for someone to do them an awsome job she's the one. She and her boyfriend are about to embark on that beautiful journey of marriage. As a matter of fact it is this week. It will be short and sweet with a ceremony to be sometime in the spring. Terry and I have been happily married for the last 30 years, and together for 33. Can't believe it's lasted this long. We have alot in common and enjoy each other's company alot. He graduated from Pompano back in '64. We met through the phone company and we have been having fun ever since. UPDATE ~~~~ May 2009 We are still enjoying life here in Blairsville GA. Life has finally settled down and we have learned more about our town and the towns all around us. Our daughter married and moved up to Minnesota..crazy person. She is happy there, found a good job and is again starting another new life. No children as of yet. Terry and I have been doing alot of fishing on our lakes now that the drought is gone and all the lakes, and rivers are back to full pool. It's so pretty out there, nothing like Fla. My mom will be turning 90 next month, she will have a huge celebration with family coming in from Fla. She is now in assisted living due to dementia. My brother has somewhat recovered from his horrible medical ordeal last year. He comes up to visit every so often. Always great to see him, when you can. He is always so busy with his writing and stories for the magazines. I have been lucky enough to reconnect with so...Expand for more
me very old friends from 38 years ago on classmates. What a joy it is to know that you left an impression on someone that still wants to remain friends. We have endured our winters here in the mountains. The snow is beautiful and fun to play in. Your never to old for that. And sledding down our hill in a garbage can lid, lol. I still can't get use to seeing the horses in all the pastures out in the cold and snow and no blankets. If it were up to me they would be all inside next to the fire !!! The spring is beautiful here. Everything blooms, everywhere. If theyre weeds, they pretty. I planted and planted the first year here, and then gave up. I thought I had no green thumb afterall. Well, after 2 years they finally have started to pop up and grow. I guess I can pull up those ugly silk flowers that I popped in all over the place and throw them in the garbage. We have had some deer walking down our creek, a doe and fawn at one time, what a wonderful sight that was. There are always deer out in the front pasture. The birds making their nests in all our little birdhouses hanging from the decks and trees. We have a local hawk though. He sits and waits......until I chase him off. I don't like hawks, in Fla one stole my biggest KOI fish and my chicken. Summer is nice. It gets hot up here, but then there is the creek to go and sit in and cool off. Never thought living right by the beach would lead to sitting in a creek and enjoying the heck out of it. Tourists are here, which I have to admit, is something I don't care for. I still remember Fla, living 33 years with tourists is something I can do without. Usually this is the time of the year the locals stay at home. You cant get on the rivers or lakes for all the people. Fall is spectacular. The colors have been the best the last 2 seasons. If you have never seen the colors of the mountains, you should take a weekend to come up. And make sure you have your camera. You take daily trips just to see the colors that change from day to day. And when you look from afar to the mountains in the distance, it just looks like a Kincaid painting. And the temps are perfect. So I guess you can tell, we have adjusted well and have no intentions of ever moving back "home". I would love to take a trip back to Pompano, it's been so many years. It would be fun to go by the old schools and just sit and stare and think. The friends, the fun. To go back to the old haunts, if they are even there anymore. To go back to all the places you once lived and see what they have done to your old homes. It would be fun, as long as I knew I could come back to my little piece of heaven. I wish everyone happy days and years to come in these hard times we are in. I believe in peace and hope that someday we will have it once again. On May 25th Terry and I will be celebrating our 33rd anniversary not counting the 3 years of dating. I still can't believe we are as happy as we were the day we met. Peace to all Jeanne
