Jeff's Story
Life
I attended Lucerne Elementary in Lucerne, CA from 1973-79. Spending my formative years living on Clear Lake, swimming, skiing and sailing nearly 10 months of the year. What more could a kid ask for?
I then moved to Ashland, OR to attend high school. Ashland was an excellent experience, despite having only 3yrs to get to know my classmates.
After leaving Ashland I attended the University of Oregon, graduating with a B.S. in Molecular Biology followed by an MBA in Marketing. During college I spent two great summers in Alaska working the salmon season. My wife Gigi is a fellow Duck, and after graduating in 1990 we moved to Seattle. IÂve spent most of my professional life working at Microsoft, and have loved just about every minute of it. IÂm a Market Research Manager; I conduct studies with thousands of customers around the world, to understand the needs and experiences of Âreal people as they use PCs and other computing/entertainment devices. I bring those insights back into the company in order to impact Product Development, with the goal of creating products that are more useful and more empowering for customers. I love my work, and my biggest challenge is not putting in too much time at the office.
Gigi also worked at Microsoft for several years when we first came to Seattle. In 1995, we were blessed with twin boys who are now eight years old. Thanks mostly to Gigi, theyÂre great kids. She continues to stay at home to make sure they stay that way, but has enough time to manage her hobby-turned-small-business of making jewelry.
We live in an older, pre-cul-de-sac house in the suburbs, ~5 minutes from Microsoft [If I had to drive Seattle freeways every day my head would explode]. We often congregate by the small creek in our backyard, which provides summer fun for the boys and quiet tranquility for Gigi and I. The twins ...Expand for more
started what has become a pattern of twoÂs in our household; we had two house rabbits who were great pets [until recently], and now we have two cats and two Beagle puppies [what was I thinking?].
Despite being tied to my PC for 10+ hours a day, I try to squeeze in a few hobbies. I love to golf, and may someday actually get good at it. I enjoy working on the landscaping at home. I still play tennis and volleyball once in awhile. IÂm kind of a movie buff, and music is my constant companion; I still have fond memories of dancing till the wee hours at Fat City in Medford back in the day. And in the past couple years IÂve become addicted to my digital camera.
I rarely get back to Ashland, but despite only living there for three years, I look back on it more fondly as the years go by. IÂm lucky enough to have maintained close ties to a handful of AHS classmates, and IÂm always interested in hearing what others are up to. Feel free to drop me email if you want to catch up, or if youÂre ever traveling to Seattle. Best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity. Go Grizz!
College
UO was the greatest. Got both a BS in Biology and MBA in Marketing. Loved living in Smith Hall my first 2 years, an "academic" dorm with people who loved to have fun too. Moved to Seattle after college with wife who's also a fellow Duck. Been working at Microsoft in marketing for most of my 13 years in Seattle.
Workplace
Microsoft is a great company to work for, I love it. It provides challenge, intellectual stimulation, freedom to take initiative, and an opportunity to have a positive impact on millions of people around the world. My only regret is that the general public is often blinded by negative PR about the company, and misses the opportunity to see how giving, honorable, and passionate Microsoft employees are. I wouldn't work anywhere else!
