Jeff's Story
After HS, I spent two years in Germany on a church mission. I then attended BYU from 1980-84, attending year-round with a year of work in Germany.
Upon graduation and until around 1989, I worked in Phoenix for St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company (doesn't exist anymore) underwriting medical-malpractice insurance. Then, I came back to the Bay Area to work my Dad's company, an insurance agency. We had grand plans to expand that business into a multi-line insurance firm serving the healthcare industry. To a large degree, we have succeeded. Knock on wood, the business is doing well.
I met my wife, Sara, when I returned to the Bay Area to work. We were married in 1988 and lived in a small house in downtown San Jose. We turned that fixer-upper around and then were able to buy a home in downtown Los Gatos, right after the Loma Prieta earthquake. (In fact, my wife was "enjoying" a nine-week stay in the hospital when that earthquake hit!) We really loved living in Los Gatos and enjoyed raising our 1st three kids (boys) there until we relocated our business to Salt Lake City in 1997.
We now have three sons and one daughter. Our oldest is 18 yrs old and the senioritis has kicked in completely! (Good thing he's already been accepted to college for next fall.) Our next is 17...Expand for more
. He just began driving (took awhile for him to save $$$) and he is the one who scares us to death. Our two youngest are 12 yrs (boy) and 10 yrs (girl). If I can dig a picture up, I'll post it on the site. I am proud of my family. I certainly married way "up" and we have great, well-rounded kids.
Living in Utah suits us well. It only takes me 25 minutes from my office to actually be in my skis on world-class slopes. Town is just the right size for us and the weather is great (except for two weeks of inversion every January--which is horrible).
We've had a few challenges along the way. One of the toughest was losing a child back when we were living in Los Gatos. But that experience, along with the day-to-day "stuff" that comes with keeping a marriage going, dealing with work, raising teenagers, etc., etc., all seem to work out in the end. As the saying goes, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I am happy to report I'm still kick'n.
I have learned to appreciate how fortunate I was to grow up in Los Altos. It was a rare combination of great friends and lifetime influences from coaches, church leaders and others. That was truly a golden atmosphere we all enjoyed.
To all of you guys from LAHS class of '77, I sure miss you and the good times we had.
