Jeff's Story
Saw movie "2001, A Space Odyssey" in high school, and decided computers was the way to go. So, after high school went to UC Berkeley and got degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Went to work in LA area for Burroughs Corporation (computers), then decided to move closer to Bay Area, and went to work for PG&E in 1974. Married Mary Ann Wilson, also class of 1969 in 1977. We have two kids and three grandchildren. Retired from PG&E in December 2009 after 35 years there. I have an interest in financial planning, so don't know if I will stay retired. Edit: I did retire in 2009, and have stayed retired.
At PG&E, I worked at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant, and other plants installing and testing computer process control systems. Then moved to various different areas, working much of the more recent time on regulatory work, providing estimates for capital and rate base, as well as presenting marginal costs for rate cases. Most recently worked as senior business analyst, developing business requirements for company rate changes.
During this time managed to travel to Europe for 5 weeks for 1992 Olympics. Also, it took a few years, but got masters in Econom...Expand for more
ics, taking just one class a semester.
Became interested in bicycling a few years ago, and rode to Los Angeles over one week for AIDs Ride. It was almost 600 miles, so averaged about 75 miles a day.
Wife Mary Ann Wilson '69 got a blood disease in 2013 called aplastic anemia. After two pretty unsuccessful ATG treatments in late 2013 and last 2014, she opted for Bone Marrow Transplant in 2015. Bone Marrow Transplant went fairly well, but Mary Ann picked up a fungus in her lung. Even though drugs were shrinking the fungus, Mary Ann and later passed away (2015) nearly five months in the hospital from complications of the fungus.
So, I'm adjusting to single life, still living in Fremont. Edit, May 2018: After crazy dating spree on five online dating websites, met Mitzie Gadd on eHarmony in September 2016. Got engaged Feb 2017, and married December 2017. Mitzie lived in San Lorenzo, and graduated from San Lorenzo High. We did not know each other back then, but share some of the same experiences that growing up in San Lorenzo gave us. Sold my house of 40 years (in Fremont) to my son and moved to Pleasanton. Adjusting to two sets of kids, and two sets of grandkids.
