Jeff's Story
Life
Kids are grown and the career has modified a bit over the past 10 years. Went from an office meteorologist to what we call an Incident Meteorologist. This allows me to travel the world forecasting weather for large incidents, such as wildfires, major flooding, the Super Bowl, and on and on. I spent 6 weeks forecasting wildfires in Australia and have been all over the U.S. When I'm not moving around forecasting, I'm still based in western Colorado. My two daughters are growing fast with the oldest getting married soon and the youngest moving over to Denver right after graduation from College. She was recently a finalist for the Denver Bronco Cheerleaders (but didn't make it this time around). She's accepted a Head Dance Coaching position at a Denver area High School and is very excited to get her career started. My wife and I are looking forward to this next stage of our lives with the hopes of traveling more and spending time with our kids and hopefully someday, grandkids. We will see. Can't believe it's been 30 years since we all graduated...unreal.
School
I don't have any memories of High School, outside of German I, II and III and laughing my head off when a certain person who will remain unnamed got busted for crawling/hanging upside down under his desk...that brings a smile to my face today. I also remember "The Gang", "The Surfaries", and heading to Creek frequently during our Senior Year. In all truth, I had a lot of fun. Only thing I would change is not to be such a big chicken with the ladies...but ...Expand for more
that was a long time ago!
College
Red Bull would have been nice...coffee grounds suck (to chew on), but chocolate covered coffee beans can be of use when cramming for those tests. Nuclear Jello Rocks and cheap beer sucks. Been there done that...
Workplace
Started at McD's flipping the patties, moved on to a manager position shortly after graduation, transferred to a Littleton store, where I met my wife! After "finding myself" I decided to head off to school and get a degree...where I found myself seeking a part-time job at U.P.S. Drove the Brown Truck for a bit, but mostly worked in Air Freight. After Graduation from the big school, got hired as a Meteorologist Intern in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Spent 2 long grueling years in the wind tunnel and moved on to the lovely Texas Panhandle (Amarillo) as a Journeyman Forecaster. Four years in the right armpit of America made me realize I needed fresh air and mountains for my young daughters (they say the smell in Amarillo is the Smell of Money, I say it just plain stinks like &^&*). This took me to Grand Junction, where I still reside to this here very day as a Senior Forecaster for the National Weather Service. I love the west slope, and plan on being here for a little while longer. Forecasting the weather can be tough, but rewarding at the same time. It's always changing and can really humble even the most seasoned forecasters. I see no career changes on the horizon, outside of moving up another notch or two in the chain. Otherwise, a career weatherman I will be!
