Jeff's Story
After high school, I was mostly self-employed as a wedding disc jockey, and occasionally doubling as a wedding singer (yes, just like the movie!) I joined my first working band in my Junior Year of high school, and continued to play with them until I turned 21.
My own high school classroom nightmares convinced me that I did not want to become a school music teacher, so I decided to stay local and pursue a degree in Communications from Purdue University Calumet in Hammond. It seemed to me at the time to be the path of least resistance!
To help make ends meet, I waited tables for a couple years. In 1991, I gave up the DJ business to perform live on most weekends. I performed in a variety of different bands, played some lead roles in community theatre and had a very short career in semi-professional theatre. In 1994, I began working for a not-for-profit community service agency in Dolton, providing services to adults with developmental disabilities. It's here that I met my wife, Karen.
In 1995, I graduated from Purdue Calumet and decided to stay in the not-for-profit sector, where I'm currently employed in the field of resource development. In 1998, I formed The Current, the band with whom I am currently performing ...Expand for more
on most weekends throughout NW Indiana.
I bought a home in Whiting in 1999, and Karen and I were married 2 years later. We still live in Whiting with her son, Alex, who graduated from Whiting High School in 2008. He recently joined the Navy for six years, and he leaves for training in May 2009.
We have two dogs and a cat. We spend most of our weekends camping with our friends at the Michigan City Campground where we have our RV parked year-round. It was here that I met a couple of fine musicians with whom I also perform in an acoustic act we call, 2 Trailers Down. This band currently plays exclusively at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City.
My latest musical endeavor is with 5 fantastic musicians / performers from the area. Beginning in September 2009, we are mobilizing the Broadway hit, "Pump Boys & Dinettes" and bringing the show back to its roots, performing it in nightclub settings, and expanding it to corporate / private events & fundraisers.
I'm a White Sox fan true and true, and I never miss a Bears game.
Perhaps shortly after Alex leaves for the Navy, we may be looking to relocate to Porter or LaPorte County. However, at the moment, it just doesn't seem like a good time to put my home on the market.
