"THERE’S MORE to MY STORY … Then and now … Here’s a peek into my life's journey since graduating from SBHS… with some flashbacks during those formative years! I was one of those energetic, fun-loving athletes who seemed to thrive in school. My transferring to the Sergeant Bluff school system in 8th grade Junior High was a blessing in disguise, and as chronicled in our uploaded '61-'65 yearbooks, I somehow made it through; broken-hearted and all (lol)! * Key Memories from Our Formative High School Years For me, high school was a time of freedom, carefree fun, and simple pleasures. Friday nights were often spontaneous adventures—cruising around town and, on occasion, taking part in local challenges to race “up Nebraska and down Pierce” Streets in Sioux City. Those were the days! The friendships and bonds we formed through sports, along with the traditional rivalries between schools, created a strong sense of community. In our small school and rural town, everyone seemed connected, and those shared experiences brought us even closer together. Playing four sports throughout my four years was an unforgettable experience. The competition, teamwork, and excitement were only part of the fun; the post-game gatherings, good-natured banter, and time spent with teammates and friends made those memories especially meaningful. Spanish, Typing, Chemistry, Mr. Coffin’s Geometry, and Study Hall were all memorable in their own ways—and often a real “hoot”! With the exception of Mr. Coffin, whose stern demeanor kept us on our toes, our teachers sometimes made it easy for us to enjoy a little harmless mischief and lighthearted fun in the classroom. The friendships and camaraderie we developed with like-minded classmates through sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities remain among my most cherished memories. The SBHS yearbooks capture some of those special moments, but they can hardly convey how innocent, carefree, and genuinely fun that time truly was. * THE MORAL of MY STORY ... ... Embrace "life!" Celebrate its victories and wonders! Don't let regrets or resentment rob the ability to love or to enjoy true happiness, and don't let life get in the way of God's gifts for recognizing “real" friendships, "real" love, or your "real" self! * After SBHS, joined the Navy as an instructor in Naval Air and sub hunter squadrons for 8 years, did tours in Key West, FL and Miramar, CA (helped startup and setup Fighter Town U.S.A. (A big 4-year adrenaline rush!) Played 3rd base fast-pitch softball for traveling NAS, Key West Bombers championship team.) * Married beauty and kindness via serendipity, helped raise 5 kids (twins) while working full time, and going to night-school for 9 years.
