Jeff's Story

After graduating in 1960, I went into the Navy. I went through the Navy school for electronics technicians and then on to active duty aboard the USS Forster (DER334) home ported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I enjoyed my duty assignment of repairing communication and radar systems. In 1963 I left active duty and enrolled in Electrical Engineering at WSU. At a summer job in Tacoma, I met Gloria and discovered she was also attending WSU. We were married in 1968 and finished our last year at WSU as married students. We graduated in 1969 and I began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA as an electrical engineer. We had a son in 1970 and a daughter in 1972. on and our family moved to Newport, Rhode Island for two years. In 1980 we returned to our house in Bremerton. In 1981 I transferred back to the shipyard finally retiring from government employment in 1997 as an engineering manager. After a year I worked for CDI Marine as an engineering manager until the end of 2004. I have been fully retired since that time. My son went through an apprenticeship and became a journeyman pipefitter and my daughter went to WSU and got a degree in Architecture. We have three Grandkids, a boy from our son and boy and girl from our daughter. We now enjoy spending time with our grandkids, traveling, and gardening. My wife also enjoys quilting and I enjoy music, Ham Radio, and woodworking.
