Jeff's Story
After graduating from MUHS, I went to NAU to study Social Work and graduated from that program in 1988, after a few breaks between semesters, I was on the 5 year plan! I then went to work for a non-profit organization in Phoenix assisting homeless persons in obtaining Social Security. A friend of mine at that time encouraged me to join the Peace Corps, which I did. I spent 20 months in Equatorial Guinea, West Africa, in a feeble attempt to save the rain forest. The State Department pulled us out of that country as the President of that Country is a real dictator and it wasn't safe for Americans to be there, this was in 1992. Upon returning home to America, I took a short break from work and then obtained a job with the State of Arizona. I worked for the State until 2001. Oh, yeah, during my winter break during the Master's program, I got married, talk about a stressful time with school and a wedding! My main agenda with working with the State was for them to pay for my Maste...Expand for more
r's degree at University of Arizona. I graduated in 2001 with a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. A month after I graduated, I was offered a job in Flagstaff with Rehabililtation Specialists Group. My job was to work with Worker Comp cases in trying to get people trained and back to work, if possible. This job contracted with the Dept of Veterans Affairs which led to a job in 2006 with the same department. This job had my wife and I move to San Antonio, TX where my brother, sister-in-law and parents were living. My brother and sister-in-law are in the Air Force so they move to Virginia a month before we moved to San Antonio, so no family when we arrived. They plan to come back here to retire, at some time. However, my wife and I are not impressed with this area, after all, we moved from a city of 60,000 (Flagstaff) to a city of a million plus. We are considering transferring to a smaller city and hopefully back to the mountains. Hope to hear from my classmates!
