Jeff's Story
Life
After completing my degree in chemistry at McMaster U. in 1964, I moved to Edmonton AB to undertake Ph.D. research in inorganic chemistry at UofA. In '68 I moved to Vancouver for two years of post-doctoral work at UBC. After a brief stint in industry, in 1971 I was employed by what is now known as the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a research scientist. I undertook studies of metals in the marine waters and their inhabitants of the west coast. In '76 I transferred to the new Institute of Ocean Sciences located near the northern tip of the Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver I. north of Victoria. I have lived for 20 years on Salt Spring Island, largest of the fabled Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia (about an hour's travel from Victoria or Nanaimo) . I have been married to my second wife for 28 years. I have one daughter from a previous pairing. My wife is a nurse who currently teaches at one of the Vancouver I. colleges and will be retiring this year (2016). My daughter is a government social worker in Vancouver. . For fun and relaxation I garden, am a fairly serious digital photographer and serve as vice-chair on the board of trustees of our water district. We have five Cairn terriers that we like to call our 'kids'. We work with a CKC registered breeder to have one or two litters per year. We have three Champion females. We will be breeding the youngest later in 2016.
