Jeffrey's Story

Life Well, I came to NW Arkansas to work for Wal-Mart on a 3 year plan, see where my college friends settled, put the name on my resume and figured I would get out of Dodge or in this case Bentonville. 8 years later and I am still living in the 6th fastest growing area of the country -- nearly 1000 people per month are moving to the area, and there are finally signs of civilization. We are getting a minor league baseball team in April, Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs have opened or will be opening, and all this with a 3 mile round trip commute to work each day. I am the senior lead in Logisics Planning and Strategy for the entire Wal-Mart empire -- supporting the 4000+ stores in the US, and the 3000+ International locations - including places like Japan, UK, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brazil, China and soon to be India and most likely Russia. I spent several months in Japan, Mexico and Germany through my time in the International division, and I have had a hand in placing over 50 DCs worldwide topping over $4 Billion in capital expedenditure. Now my job is to try to figure out how to support our store growth without adding very many more distribution centers. I have ...Expand for more
a core group of friends here that help keep my sanity. A couple of 5000 mile baseball roadtrips and seeing the Sox live in St Louis in 2004 win the World Series have been a couple of notable highlights in recent years. I have totally slacked off in keeping in contact with anyone, so I apologize. I hope all is well with the Class of 93 alumni. Be good and smile!! College Attending Penn State University has been the best decision I have made in my life. It opened up new horizons outside of New England, and my degree in Logistics and International Business has come in very handy with my career. Being "forced" to study abroad, I selected Cologne, Germany. The 10 Penn Staters that were on that program helped shaped the rest of my life, and we have had great early success throughout the US -- including my roommate who joined Google before they turned public...maybe I should have become even closer friends with her. Anyway, I have gone back to PSU several times over the last few years to recruit and don't ever want to leave. I finally realized that there were more to life than grades, and that group of friends and experiences will always have a piece of my heart.
