jeffrey's Story
After graduation I entered a machine tool technolgy/work experience program which was set up between DeAnza College and Nasa-Ames Research Center. I was talented enough in the day to recieve the Industrial Arts Honors Student award our Junior yr . 1970 .However getting draft #65 in the lottery that yr. and the fact that all occupational and educational deferments were terminated that yr was going to yank me right out of " The Program " as we called it then , and rather than get drafted , my mother convinced not only me but my Homestead class of 71 sweetheart that both of us enlisting in the U.S. Army, and getting married would be a great way to keep our Love alive and not let this draft situation end our relationship.I'm proud to say that Melanie jane Thomas and I entered the service in Nov.71 and were married in San jose while home on christmas leave from each of our basic training cycles . We both spent a yr in maryland before going overseas for two yrs. in mannhiem germany. We were married for five yrs. then divorced in late 1976 and though we both moved on in life she will always be a very special person to me.God Bless you Melanie. My second mairaige produced my only child a son who's now 27 and is getting married this October 15th in San Diego and both tight finances and the close timing between the 40 yr. and his wedding are going to make me miss our class reunion. BEST WISHES TO ALL OUR ALUMNI , I THINK THERE WERE 719 OF US WHO GRADATED THAT YR. I made a fair circle of friends at homestead ,I mention this only because I chose not to attend Sunnyvale high where I was scheduled to attend, I convinced my parents ,"both deceased in the mid to late 70's 'to move back across town into the boundaries of the Homestead High School . My third mairaige to...Expand for more
Elizabeth who was present with me at the 30 yr reunion ended in divorce ,but strange as it sounds we just kinda downgraded each other to Significant other status, we've been living together 'IN SIN I GUESS LOL , for over the last seven yrs. and we co-own property together in N. las vegas , nv. where we plan to retire by july 2013. I've worked in the Blue collar world my whole working life, "carreer; in several different Machinist toolmaker/modelmaker classifications for many Fortune 500 companies, and Nasa- Ames research. Occupational and personal related stress ,aided by my long ' life in the fast lane or counterculture ' to quote The Eagles took it's toll on me hard by 1987.A combination of stress/ job burnout/ and not finding the right opportunities to keep me abreast of ever changing technology kinda really shrunk my job market and has made finding challenging and enjoyable employement in my still non the less prestigeous carreer really difficult, PAY RATES DROPPED RADICALLY AFTER 2002 in my trade, and I'm humbly trying to slide into a somewhat early retirement. Alot of you probably don't know we had enough guys at homestead back then that were into motorcycle racing, that we formed our own club at homestead in 1970. Faculty member norm schu helped us form The Piston Pushers Motorcycle Club , I held the position of vice president. Thanks to all of you so far that have visited my profile on class mates .com/memory lane , I appreciate your touching base with me, We all share a common bond and I hope all of you are as proud as I am for Graduating together in what I considered back in THE DAY, THE CLASS OF THE FREMONT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. go Mustangs w/ love and admiration from your fellow alumni Jeff Hatfield Class of '71' p.S.please STAY IN TOUCH
