Thoughts of then and now by Jeff Hayes... Notorious
English Teacher as a lark 1999-2000 school year (go figure), Tennis instructor, Basketball Ref for local schools, churches, and Boys and Girls Clubs... Mainly a JPMorgan Mortgage Consultant 1984-2006... Married 1977 for six months ... Re-Married 1978-1993 Everett WA (2-boys 30, 33) 6 grandchildren... Married 1994-1999 Half Moon Bay... ... settled (for good) in South Lake Tahoe. Remarried 2001-Present. I have written 14 lousy novels under a pen name--yeah they were not meant for publication--written from 1967-1997, a blizzard of poems and aphorisms since age 13 when ... I wish she were alive... I miss her... To her I leave this dedication: "Remember always that I'm here... I'm right here" To all From Woodside class of 1972 I leave this sentimental reflection...
This Side Up--
After decades of reflection, I find my life beginning in 1967. In July '67 my father had gone... By the early Fall, I'd stumbled on... something... I embrace all its horrors, all its insanity all its mysteries. La-La Land Time has changed to serious times making a living/married with kids, and a demanding job... I say my life began in 67 because I experienced a rebirth; a renaissance filled with free will with the "Make love not war, Far-out, Wicked, Cool, Right On Bro and Bummer" ...You get the picture. By mid October my "best friend" became my undercover (no pun intended) girlfriend... At first it was a gentle kiss not ever forgotten and still haunting me in my breams;: In 1967 my principles, beliefs, and values all vaporized...

hool in between ... I learned that we, those born from 1945-1960 and living in Ladera existed as a privileged lot--some of us from very historical families--but never ever knowing how any were any worse or better than other in any way. Back then we looked for cause to reason... I think many of us now look to reason for a cause. Then we struggled to crush our limits and take wild chance; today we pray for limitations. For those who survived into the now... middle age--in my case old age; for those of us who danced to -ear shattering sounds from Fillmore, Stanford Frost or Avalon Ballroom; for those whose minds blended with all, or perhaps with, Sugar Cubes, Chocolate Flats, or the Deans List... any road taken or not taken... We looked to the sky for ICBM's, and decided screw that--I'm gonna live for today--cut school and surf... We dared to break the forbidden silence... many of us now yearn for the silence of serenity. For us to any or all the above we searched and we continue to search and to learn... we continue in an unfinished reality; or a completed contented one but still know we should walk 2 miles 3x a week and eat well, not smoke, and respect our founding fathers hope for us all as hoped, Thomas Paine help us with :Common Sense" and led our thinking to form a new nation--E pluribus unum, novus ordo seclorum... and to the heavens above we may say God bless us, forgive us, enfold us and renew us--be kind to each other and remember how fortunate we were, we are--and to our grandchildren be careful what you say about your past--as it is their world now--and we owe it to them to set their course without our influence : Peace on Earth... and Goodwill--and hope for mankind and our green planet--that blue marble in a black space. a life of love, fortuitous, and wholesome and constructive values.
