Jeffrey's Story
Life
Jeffrey E. Martin has practiced law in Illinois since 1982, and has been a member of the Levin & Perconti team since 2000. Jeff began his legal career deeply committed to the idea of making a positive difference in peopleÂs lives. In seeking justice for those hurt due to the negligence of others, he found the ideal way to honor that commitment. More than two decades later, Jeff'Âs passion for his work and absolute dedication to his clients has not diminished.
Jeff has successfully resolved numerous cases in excess of $1,000,000, including a $5,000,000 verdict against a hospital and one of its residents, a $4,600,000 verdict against a Chicago hospital, a $3,650,000 verdict against a municipality, and a $1,100,000 verdict against another municipality, its paramedics, and a local hospital, and, most recently, a $1.03 Million verdict in a brachial plexus injury case against an obstetrician. Jeff has been able to successfully represent clients in medical malpractice cases who had been told by prior counsel that no liability existed. One case involved a $2 Million recovery for the wrongful death of a 62 year old husband/father due to an undiagnosed cardiac tamponade that occurred at a south suburban Chicago hospital. Another case involved a young woman who as a result of a laparoscopy suffered irritable bowel syndrome and other complications that resulted in a $300,000 recovery. He was able to obtain a $975,000 recovery for a woman who had her right ulnar nerve injured during the course of a cardiac ablation procedure at a suburban hospital. Notably, that woman had been a member of the jury in one of JeffÂs medical malpractice trials and approached him after the trial was over to see if he would represent her. Most recently, Mr. Martin was able to obtain a $2.25 Million recovery for the family of a young boy who had been recovering from leukemia who died at a Chicago hospital due to complications from an untimely diagnosed...Expand for more
infection.
Jeff takes seriously his obligation to address his clients concerns in a timely and compassionate manner. He prides himself on being readily accessible to his clients, and on his ability to relate to and serve the needs of clients of varying ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
Jeff is active in both the legal and medical communities. Accompanied by one of his physically disabled clients, Jeff met with Illinois legislators in Springfield to oppose measures to place limits on recoveries available for victims of medical malpractice. He has served on the ITLA Amicus Committee and on the Institutional Review Board at ChildrenÂs Memorial Hospital. He has also given presentations on various topics related to tort law changes. In his local community, Jeff has served two terms on the Arlington Heights Plan Commission and was Chairman of the Ordinance Review Subcommittee. He has also served on the Board of Directors of a nonprofit organization whose mission was to assist impoverished families. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
